I have been donking around with Draw for awhile, trying to get a feel for it. Seems like it would be an easily beatable game if you really pay attention to playing position. It's like holdem in that you play position more than you play your cards. And pay attention to how many cards your foes are discarding and play that.

Forget multitabling. Too much action happens too quickly to be able to keep up.

2-7 variance is brutal.... i just played a bit of a drunk session, and it was wild for me and my tablemates. i was shocked at how many people drew one card to 7s and fricking hit that shit.

fwiw, the games are soft. i had a guy actually flatcall my last bet when he had perfect!?!?!?!

i also had people who didn't know that aces played high or that KTs were not good hands to show down. the bad thing is that there seems to be some "sharks" who may not know how to play the game, but at least know how to play poker and isolate the idiots.

fwiw, trying to snap off an isolation play can increase your variance -- both up and down.

also, fwiw, the biggest betting tell that i saw was that people autobet/autoraise or bet/raise 7s REALLY fast. terrible click tell.

I was playing limit draw, by the way. I'll try a little PL and/or NL later to see how that plays. Of course, it's probably not going to be a real good gauge playing at such low stakes for now, almost like doing play money.

I've played some 2/4 and 3/6 TD at UB, and you're right, Kuso. The variance is huge. If you want to get at least semi-serious about 2-7 TD, pick up Super System 2. Negraneau has a quite extensive piece on that game. His basic message is this: Play position, play aggressively, rarely play a hand where you have to draw more than two cards and rarely play a hand that doesn't have a 2 in it. I've found that if you keep those basic ideas in mind and remain calm, you'll do fine.

yeah... i've read the SS/2 section. it seems quite basic, but good fundamentals. the variance, of course, is that even if you have a stone cold read on someone (e.g., stands pat with 9s or betters and bets 8s or better), you still don't know where you're at when they bet. is it a rough 8 or a perfect 7? this is where the click tells started to come in handy, fwiw. ditto with raises.

i just played a few hands of PL 2-7... even whackier (but much more profitable than limit, imo).

i'd really like to know how in the hell someone can really play this game as a NL game.

I really think PL and NL in stud and draw games are for casino gamblers. Makes sense for flop games, but not for these. That said, I'll go donk off a buyin at the micros in both TD and draw to see what happens and to see if I have a revelation. But for now, I can only think of them as limit games.

We're really into territory here for the Other Games forums. I will start a thread in that forum with a link to this thread, and we should continue the discussion over there.
