OK, been quite awhile since I posted anything about my poker playing and I'm leaving for Las Vegas for the big BTP meetup so I figure I'll post what I've been doing recently, and then after I get back from Vegas I'll post any amusing stories and poker results and what not, that happened in Sin City.
Since early October, basically since the time I withdrew most all my funds for Las Vegas after the US Govt's decision to mess with us, I've played SnG's almost exclusively. Mostly cheapo $5.50 ones but some 10 and 20's thrown in as well. All kinds too, 1 table and multi table, 2 seaters, 6 seaters and 9 seaters, 18 seaters, 45 seaters. Even a couple of the BTPCOOP events which are basically 2 table SnG's full of good players. But the ones I decided to play the most were the 6 seaters. My reasons for doing this were because #1, you only have to beat 4 people to make it ITM and #2, the future of NLHE looks to be 6max so I thought this might give me a little bit of an inexpensive introduction to that. And of course #3, is that I plan on playing a tourney or two in Las Vegas and am hoping these SnG's will be a help in that regard as well. Up until the stupid online gaming law crap, I had been clearing bonuses at Hollywood and PokerRoom playing 2/4 and 3/6 5max limit HE and doing fairly well at it. Now of course I can't play at those sites.
With the SnG's I went through as horrendous streak of 19 straight SnG's finishing OTM. Some of it was due to variance and horribly bad beats, but some was due to bad play and being overly aggressive. Then briachek railed me for a few of them and looked over some of my HH's that I sent him and made some observations and suggestions. It must have helped. In my last 15 SnG's (including todays BTPCOOP RAZZ event) I have finished ITM 9 times with 5 wins, 3 seconds and 1 3rd. 8 of those ITM's have come in the last 10 I've played. So something has definitely changed for the better and I am hopeful that it isn't just a reversal of the bad variance I was experiencing.
I've also begun playing RAZZ a little bit after watching the #12 finisher of the 1982 WSOP RAZZ event, (in case you unaware of it, that's our own "bobby" from here at BTP) totally PWN a couple 5/10 and a 8/16 RAZZ tables at Full Tilt. I've not begun to win much at it yet, but today I did manage to take 3rd place against 10 really good BTP'ers in the aforementioned BTPCOOP event. So I feel like that's coming along nicely. Then again, maybe I was just really trying to get the other half of the bracelet I split with Rhound last year in the same event.
Once I get back from Vegas, I'll probably deposit some of the roll (notice the positive outlook that I will still have some of it left) into the sites that spread RAZZ. The ones I know of are Absolute, Stars, and Full Tilt. If you know of others, please tell me. I'm also going to continue with the SnG's.
On a final note for this post, I have already begun thinking about my 2007 New Years resolutions. More on that to come. If you have any suggestions for good and attainable ones, please feel free to post them here. 2007 is going to be a much different year for me.
Those of you not making this weeks BTP Vegas trip, hopefully there will be many more to come and I'll get to meet you all then. Those of you who are going, see ya in a few days boys!!!!
Las Vegas, HERE I COME!!!!!!! Wish me luck folks!
