Why do I ever slowplay anything!?

Postby Bosox1 » Wed Nov 22, 2006 9:24 am

I have been having horrible luck with slowplaying lately. I decided not to slowplay yesterday and I had a great day (coincedence, I think not). So I decide to try a couple SnG's while I was waiting for 9:00 to roll around so I could watch House. The first one I took 4th (JJ vs QQ all in preflop oh well). I got to heads up in the 2nd and this hand came up:

I have about an 8000 to 5000 lead. Blinds 100/200
I am on the button and raise to 600 with KcTc. Villian calls
($1200) Flop K84 with 2 clubs. He checks, I decide to make a standard CB for 2 reasons, 1 it allows me to be consistant and there is no way for him to know if I have Q9 or 66 here. 2 he might think I'm bluffing. so I bet 700. He calls

($2600) turn a 10. Now I have top two with the second nut flush draw. an F-ing monster heads up. So when he checks I check behind. The river brings a non club 5. He bets 1900 and only has 1500 left. Does anyone do anything besides push this?

I very rarely slow-play.

No way I'm folding or calling the river. You showed weakness by checking the turn so you very well may have induced a bluff on the river. Definitely shoving the river and hoping he calls. If he folds you have a tremendous chip lead on him and can shove any semi-decent hand into him until the blinds eat him up or you're in a 40/60, 60/40 race or whatever.

I think I would fire at that turn. If he is slowplaying AA you just took the lead and he isnt getting away from it. He could be sitting on a QQ, JJ, 99 type hand and took your flop bet as well as the turn check as weekness. A set is possible, but highly unlikely. This type of play wreaks of AK or KQ or AJ that just picked up a flush draw on the turn. I think you absolutely have to put him all in when he bets the river. No way you can get away from this. Also 67 doesnt seem a likely holding unless it was clubs and his gut shot straight draw just completed. My vote is for a push but I think I am firing 1800-2400 on the turn would have been the best scenario because I think the 10 helped him in some way.
