3/6 HU- Ace High on the River

(This is a cash game, not an SnG. I don't see HU$ HH's here, so if it's better suited for the SnG forum, sorry.)

I don't PT HU games, Weak-TAG in that he over-valuebets really big hands. I push him around a bit, so I have to mix things up. Was he fine with taking it down as is or did he want a call? Just 'cause he's a TAG doesn't mean that he's incapable of bluffing OOP, but when he does it, he's careful to not lose too much. These look the same as his weakTP's. Am I priced in? It doesn't look like much, but this is such a common situation and I've had a lot of different resposes on other forums.

Prima Poker skin
No Limit Holdem Ring game
Blinds: $3/$6
2 players

Stack sizes:
Double Gutted: $1870.45
BB: $1134

Pre-flop: (2 players) Double Gutted is Button with [Ah] [9d]
Double Gutted raises to $18, BB calls $12 (pot was $36).

Flop: [6s] [Qd] [8c] ($36, 2 players)
BB checks, Double Gutted checks.

This was a great flop for him to check-raise me off what's most probably the best hand and I figured my only value would come him bluffing at the pot on the turn. I've also been CB'ing a lot in this session.

Turn: [6h] ($36, 2 players)
BB bets $20, Double Gutted calls $20 (pot was $76).

I was gonna raise a lot of cards here to end the hand, but again this was a great card for him raise me with almost any 2 cards or call with a big hand and take me to Valuetown on the river with a monster. Again, I thought my best value would come from him betting the river with the worst hand. Before just calling this turn, I said to myself that the MOST I'd call to any non-painted river was $40. Bad thinking?

River: [4h] ($76, 2 players)
BB bets $40, Double Gutted ____________ ???

Dammit! He had to bet exactly $40? Go with it or lay it down?

if he's weak and you push him around...and this is probably either a bluff or top pair/weak kicker....

how about a raise? if he'll fold weak queens then you should raise it up. on the one hand your line will look very bluffy. on the other hand he doesn't sound like the kind of player who will think about that.

one thing i disagree with...you talk about getting value from him bluffing the turn. i dont really think there's much value to get here. if you had AK it would be different. but he can be bluffing here with better hands than yours.

He likes to look me up getting 2:1+ with middle pair and I take a lot of pots on flops with probes, so I have to watch myself sometimes and show that I'm capable of just calling him down after softplaying flops for the cases when I need free rivers and he has a hand he's unsure of.

no way on hell does anybody in hell ever ever ever ever ever fold a Q to a raise here. Ever.

I'd probably call here. He sounds like the type of player who would check with a PP or maybe even an 8 here rather than valuebet and hope to get a call out of A-high or 77. His hand looks like 57/79/TJ type of a hand, or a Q/6. You say he over-valuebets his really big hands so that sort of eliminates a 6 from his range, leaving a Q maybe 30% of the time, an 8 10% of the time, something else that beats you probably 10-20% of the time and you win 40-50% of the time I think.
Poker is silly.

It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.

Somewhere in the world someone is training when you are not. When you race him, he will win.

I can't understand why you want to showdown an A high. I aslo think that this flop is good for a CB (that depends of course on how you play), as a Q, 8, 97o are definetly in my button raise range.

Basic idea, with such a hand IMO we dont want a showdown, so one needs to bet or to fold. I don't like these turn and river calls.

This is all about the current eb and flow of the game.

P.S. I think your turn analysis is very poor.

I called and he had A3.

You can see also in the hand where he went the felt postflop with QQ against me that starting this day, he's been opening up a lot against me and I've had the better of him. Up to this night, i wasn't even up a buy-in on him. Don't know why he's been doing shit like this.
