flopped nut str8 no redraw

Postby euri10 » Mon Apr 25, 2005 10:22 am

how do you play this hand ?
this is the 4th time today I flopped nut Str8 with no redraw and that I finish all in on the flop and lose against top set that makes a full house or flush.
wonder if putting all my money in the middle is a good option, if position has any kind of importance in this kind of situation, maybe I don't see something that is obvious but franckly I don't think I played these hands badly, anyway comments very appreciated.
ok the flop call is bad,

IMO, nothing you can do there but hope you hold and move on. You bet it and got raised all in.....are you supposed to fold the current nuts? The only other way to play it is to check/call and hope for a good turn then push but I think that is weak and you normally would be able to get a flush draw to fold on a hand like this.

I can't see how you can fold the nuts there for that raise. The only way it's -EV is if he has the straight plus a flush redraw, and the other player has top set, or something. In that spot you only have about 15% of the equity.

Its a tough flop, with all those draws out, and you're out of position, so there's something to be said for check-calling it, and then firing on the turn. Sometimes against decent players you can turn your bad position to your advantage - you check, the same straight bets, you call - if the turn's a blank, you can move in with the nuts. If the turn brings a flush or pairs the board, you can bet and potentially fold someone with the same hand as you. Something to think about, anyhow, though obviously bluffing a scare card will only work heads up, if you get two callers someone will almost certainly have hit!
