Thoughts on my play on these two hands. I'm personally not very impressed with myself.

First hand, this was the guys first hand at the table. so no read. I felt like a donkey here.

5/10NL 6-handed on stars. (full ring table, but only 6 of us there).
effective stacks are all $1000

LP opens to $40. I call OTB with [9h], SB calls as well.

3-handed $130 pot. Flop comes [Td][7h]. They both check to me, I bet $80. SB calls.

HU - $290 pot. turns the . SB checks to me, I bet $125. he raises another $135 to $260. He has $580 behind.

Blah.


Hand 2:

Full stacks again. 5/10, FR (actuall FR) this time. I had been at the table for a few hands, UTG hadn't done anything of note yet.

I'm dealt [9h] in MP. UTG limps. i limp. BB checks.

3-handed $30 pot. Flop comes [6h][3d]. BB bets $20. UTG calls. I raise to $80. BB folds, UTG calls.

HU - $215 pot. turns the . he checks, I bet $150. he calls.

HU - $515 pot. Rivers the . He checks, I bet $300.



Thoughts on my play for these two hands?

before i read the results:

I'd call with the [9h] and let him push it in himself on the river.

2nd hand i'm also inclined to check the turn and keep the pot small. UTG called a bet and then a raise. Very likely could be slowplaying a set or being cautious with a limped AA.

So ... in hand #2 the guy limped 76o utg in a (full) full-ring game, then hit top 2 on the flop, just called a bet and then just called a raise on the flop, chk/called the turn and then chk/called again on the river. Wow. Isn't that just insanely terrible on every street? I would mark him down as fishy at $50 NL, let alone $1000.

Hand 1) I like the turn bet more if you had some read on the guy. Without a read, I'm a bit leary, but that's pretty nit picky. Not much wrong, and I like the flat call.

Hand 2) I really prefer a turn check, especially since you said you had trouble putting him on a hand.

It's no wonder you've done well with this kind of circumspection.
