I misplayed this hand pretty badly, but want to know if my take on how I should have played it is on track. Folds around to the BTN, who is a decent player. He limps. In the SB I have , and I raise to $5. BB folds and BTN calls. I have ~$110 and BTN covers.
Flop: ($11)
I bet $8, BTN calls.
Turn: ($27)
I bet $15, BTN calls
River: ($57)
I check, BTN puts me in for $80, I call.
Working backwards from the river. I think I should have bet $20 here, so that if he pushes over the top, I can fold. By checking I induce a bluff, which makes it more likely that I should call, so if I bet I have a much better idea if my hand is good.
On the turn I should either check to keep the pot small or make a PSB. If I check and he checks behind then I can make small value bet on the end. If I check and he bets, then I raise and force him to define his hand. Alternatively, I think a PSB of 22-25 would have got the job done. If he calls that or raises then I have to think I'm beat and can check/fold the river in good conscience.
