Ok, this is very important: If you play even reasonably well, the managing of your bankroll, and the decisions of what to do with your winnings, IS MORE IMPORTANT, THAN YOUR PLAYING DECISIONS!! Yes, it's true, so don't try to argue with ATE.

Now, this presupposes that you know the difference between an 3 K, and an AKsuited.

If you are making reasonably intelligent decisions, about how to play, your playing decisions, PALE in comparision to the significance to your bankroll decisions.

This is because, making minor errors in strategy, CANNOT bust you out.

But, if you spend your money too loosely, invest too much in tournaments, play too big of a game, don't make good investments

YOU WILL BE BUSTED!!

If you like to party up, live the good life, the chances are:

You won't make it, in poker.

The running bad times, are always just around the courner, and if you don't save a significant portion of your winnings, they will eat up your bankroll.

IF you spend everything you make, how can you expect to advance up in limits? What about your retirement? You can't play well, forever.


I cannot tell you everything to do, within the confines of a post, but here are some good guidelines:


(1) You should put aside 20% of your wins, towards future losses
(2) You should put aside, at least 15-20 percent of your wins, towards Bankroll increase

(3) Do not advance in limits, until you can afford to play the game 30 times in a row, without going busted. MINIMUM

(4) Never invest more than 1 30th of your bankroll, in any one tournament.

(5) TRY TO PUT ASIDE 10% OF YOUR WINS, TOWARD RETIREMENT


A very good rule of thumb is: Expect to live on 50% of your average monthly win, until you've reached the point, where your skills peter out

Example: you make 4K a month, playing 10-20. Live on 2K, until you reach the 30-60 level. YOu feel, that this is the max level, at which you are better than most of the players. Now, you've earned the right, to spend 80% of your wins, putting aside 20% to cover losses.
