So what's in store for 2007? First of all i've decided to go back to Uni. I'm going to go back into my Commerce course and try and get it done in a couple of years. I made this deicison for a few reasons. I've always wanted to get a degree and my dropping out last semester was never going to be a permanent thing, whether I was going to go back after 6 months or 5 years. I just think it will be easier going back now than after years have passed. My friends are still all going there so I can hang out with them during the day. Most of the people in my classes will be around my age too so I can make new friends pretty easily.
Why commerce? Why not. I have already done one semester of this, and it's a pretty broad course. It includes accounting, law, economics, business management, etc etc. I figure if I ever want to start my own business then a commerce degree would be great to have. Another reason is that there's nothing that really stands out as something I REALLY want to do. Pyschology would be OK I guess, and i'm kinda interested in that aspect of science, but the career prospects of a pysch degree are very minimal from what i've heard. I think if i'm still interested in it years down the track I might go back and study it just for the hell of it, but it's not something I want to do just now.
Given that the past two months I haven't even put in 100 hours of poker combined, I don't think going back to uni will cut down on my hours. Infact I think it may even increase the time I put in, as i'll have a more rounded life and hopefully i'll spend less of my spare time doing random (and mostly useless) crap and instead spend it playing poker or working out or something benificial.
What're my goals for 2007?
- Earn $150,000 through poker.
I think this is totally achievable. At my current winrate, if I put in just 20 hours a week, i'm projected to make about $100k. I can only believe my winrate will increase and thus I think $150k is a pretty decent goal.
- Join a gym and hire a personal trainer.
Having weights at home has been a good idea, but i'm not working out as often as I should be and I don't think i'm maximising my workouts as I don't know enough about the field. I think getting a personal trainer and going into a gym a few times a week will REALLY help me bulk up and get into shape a lot quicker than I could do on my own.
- Move out of home (in March or April).
This is something I really wanted to do this year. There never seemed to be a good time however. I was moving up in limits fairly aggressively to start, then I blew some money in Melbourne and went on a break-even run, and finally when I had enough to move out I went to India. Then came November and I was going to Melbourne a couple of times before Christmas then leaving for Canada/USA so it didn't seem too smart to move out then and pay rent for six months when i'd only be there for three. I'm definitely moving out in March/April and I definitely have enough money and income to support myself now.
- Learn to cook.
I've been wanting to do this for a while and I think once I move out it'll be important to be able to cook my own meals. I love food, I really LOVE it and think it would be totally awesome to be able to make healthy and delicious meals myself.
- Travel to at least one new place I haven't been to before (Thailand maybe?).
This is probably the least likely to happen, but i'd still like to try get out there and make it work. Given that i'm going back to Uni I won't have too much spare time, but perhaps during mid-year holidays I can get a trip together out there. Hard/Xas/Sham who's coming with me?
- Learn to drive / buy a car.
This will definitely happen.
- Drink less alcohol.
A prop bet with ED should make sure of this.
UMMM I think that's it. 2006 was a great year and 2007 will be a better one. Thanks to everyone who's supported me this year and put up with the highs and lows of this journal. Ya'll are a great big group of crazed degenerates, and I say that from the bottom of my heart.
Poker is silly.
It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.
Somewhere in the world someone is training when you are not. When you race him, he will win.
