Boy, what a disappointing movie. It played like a bad M. Night Shamalamadingdong movie, sort of like The Village.


For those that havent seen it, Nick Cage a police office that is haunted by a car crash that lead to the death of a young woman and her daughter before his eyes - although no bodies were found and the people were never identified. Then a note from an ex-girl friend about her lost daughter sends him to a private island in the middle of Puget Sound inhabitted by a druidic cult.

Something sinster is going on on the island and Nick continues to be haunted be mysterious ghostly visions in his search for the missing girl that he finds out is also his own daughter.

The ending was very unsatisfying, much like a bad twilight zone episode.

I read your first sentence and thought "My God, how can he get this so wrong?". Then I read further and realised you're talking about some awful Hollywood remake.

Have you seen the creepy original?

I watched this last night----Quite Possibly the worst movie I've seen in the last couple of years. It was just horrible....

You want to watch the original. Remakes of horror films are almost invariably awful.

The original stars Edward Woodward in the Cage role and Christopher Lee as the creepy head of the hebridean island. Lee considers it the best film he's ever been involved with. It's not a classic horror (i.e. a lot of it is creepy and unsettling rather than frightening in a characteristic way) but a wonderful film. I haven't seen the remake but I don't see the point of taking a story, changing it's setting, and making it shit. Rather like the Italian Job remake, my first thought was "what the hell is the point? What was wrong with the original? Aren't there enough ideas or stories in the world that filmmakers don't have to make inferior, shitty remakes of perfectly good films to rip people off with?".
