Hand against best player at the table

Postby iceman5 » Wed Jan 31, 2007 12:31 pm

Besides me, there were 2 very good players at the table. I think these 2 guys are good as anyone Ive seen at a $2/$5 NL live game.

One plays professionally and its obvious and the other one, villain in this hand, is an obvious internet player. He plays position very well. Hes getting outdrawn over and over and isnt batting an eye. Hes stuck about $1500. These 2 guys are talking about playing on the WSOP and online quailifiers and all of that. Theyre both very professional acting. The first pro said something to me about getting a crack at my stack and the Vliian in this hand said "Good luck, he has a lockdown on those chips"

Only a few mins later....

I raise to $25 after a limper. Villian calls on the button as does the limper who absolutely sucks but thinks hes good.

Pot $80. Flop [Ks][6h][5d]. Limper checks, I check. Button bets $60. Limper folds and I call.

Pot $200. Turn [2h]. I lead $100 and he thinks and calls.

Pot $400. River [9c]. I check and he bets $200.

1) What does he have?
2) What do you think a pro puts me on with this line?

I think the villain is pretty well defined, AK IMO.

I think you have a set, and TBH, I would NEVER take this line, but you got the perfect storm of a situation here..a villain with a well-defined hand, an absolutely PERFECT board to take a tricky line with a set. NH. I hope you raised your 66 on the end.

he can have most anything here. your turn bet gives him no reason to believe you have a K. so....K-x, missed hearts, 43, 87. i have to imagine he'd raise turn with a set? but maybe not.

generally your line represents a weak hand. its very inconsistent with how you'd usually play a set or 65.

if you have 87, then i think this is a pretty solid line for you to take.
if you have AK/KQ and you're check-calling river, then i like it too.
if you have a set or 2 pair i think you're just being overly fancy for no good reason.

Stack sizes??

His hand looks a lot like AK, but he could also have 87. I think he has a real hand on the end because that half pot bet wants a call.

I have no clue what a pro puts you on. I have no clue what you would play this way. I suppose I might play a set this way if I felt trappy / weird and had a good read that the guy liked his hand some but not a lot. Say you put him on KQ or something. If you put him on AK then I don't see why you wouldn't bet bigger on the turn.

Check/call, half pot, check --> that doesn't sound like Ice at all. Is this one of those reversed things where you're the Villain?

The Pro thinks you have a K or a mediocre holding. The pro has either AK or 78 and is trying to get some value here.

I had [Kc][Qc]. He bet the $200 and stared into space. I flipped up the K and said "I have one of these", to get his reaction. There wasnt any other than him looking at the K and then back into space. I told him theres no way he could put me on a K the way I played it so he either had JJ or [Ah][Jh] and I called.

He flipped up [Ah][Th] and said "nice call". All you naysaysers who didnt like how I played it, please tell me how I get more value from [Ah][Th] here. You just cant raise preflop and then bet top pair every time and expect t get full value from a good player.
