NL $100 6-Max 2overs and FD - OK play?

Postby gnurulle » Sun Mar 18, 2007 5:54 am

Standard play?

Seat 1: BB ($136.91 in chips)
Seat 2: UTG ($31.97 in chips)
Seat 3: UTG+1 ($244.49 in chips)
Seat 4: CO ($15 in chips)
Seat 5: HERO ($101.25 in chips)
Seat 6: SB ($99 in chips)
SB: posts small blind $0.50
BB: posts big blind $1
----- HOLE CARDS -----
dealt to HERO [Qd] [Kd]
UTG: folds
UTG+1: folds
CO: folds
HERO: raises to $4
SB: folds
BB: calls $3
----- FLOP ----- [5h] [3d] [7d]
BB: checks
HERO: bets $6
BB: calls $6
----- TURN ----- [5h] [3d] [7d][9h]
BB: checks
HERO: checks
----- RIVER ----- [5h] [3d] [7d] [9h][4d]
BB: bets $30
HERO: calls $30

Is my play OK here? BB is loose (45/21), so I thought he might have Adxd with the turn check.

You absolutely HAVE to raise this river. You have the 2nd nuts. He can have a straight (which may call a raise) or a lower flush (which will definitely call the raise) or even some weirdly played two-pair or set. You are leaving soooo much money on the table by not raising the river.
Poker is silly.

It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.

Somewhere in the world someone is training when you are not. When you race him, he will win.

A minraise damn near puts you all-in on the river.

You have the 2nd nuts.

Roy, can I borrow your MALLIN button after I buy this man's hand from him?

If the BB really was "loose," there is absolutely no way he would NOT have bet the turn with the A[d]X[d] - shove your money in the pot for the love of GOD!

2nd nut flush... non-paired river card, you are only losing to Ax or [6d] [5d] , Against a loose player I am raising this river all in nearly all the time..... He may well have a lower flush a large % of the time.

Stop saying he has the 2:nd nuts, [5d] [6d] is the nuts, [Ad] suited is the 2:nd nuts.

But yeah, raise the river ffs! I wouldn't bet the turn though, I'd rather chase my 7-15 outs for free.

Really? Maybe I've been playing too much Omaha, but that's a BIG overbet. I dunno, I'm pretty happy with just the call, at least without more of a read.

Side note: There was a loose-aggressive (particularly when drunk) but competent player during tournament week a little while ago whose overbets gave me some problems. I more or less never overbet, but it did made me wonder if there were certain table types where you could do this profitably with some hand selection. I think that would be a topic very much worth exploring. Maybe it's just a good idea when stacks are pretty deep (as they were at this table)... (?)
