Tough spot. With the check on the flop, you've basically announced your hand - I mean, you probably don't check a set like ever on that flop.
If you check the flop, I think you should just fold the turn when he bets, unless he is the type that will bluff the turn, but be unable to pull the trigger on the river.
As played, call river, I guess b/c nothing has really changed from the turn or the flop, and you have possibly induced a bluff (which I assume was part of the flop check, along with pot control).
Next time, I would just grit my teeth and bet, that being the last $ I put in the pot UI.
