I think that is a good time to back off, but perhaps even a better time to just limp your AKo for that exact reason.

This is great spot to cold-call and extract postflop value or minimize our losses. I just don't see him folding PF and it's hard to compensate for our position with a loose player who's already laid down to us twice.

3-betting's not bad to go HU and look for the right flop, though. You made it a good size. This just isn't the right flop.
