I was faced with this the other night in a $500 max buy in 2/5 NL game, FR. I'm trying to noodle through if this is a winning play or not, here's the situation: Early position raises a decent amount, 6x the BB. Although the game can play a bit loose at times, he's a decent player and I assume he has a good pair but not a dominating one, I'm thinking TT, JJ, QQ. It's folded to me in late position and I've got AKo. What to do?
Options:
1) Call the bet and see the flop. If an Ace or King hits I'm probably best, but it's unlikely I'd win any more money from someone with a lower pair. If no A or K hits then he's going to bet out and I'm going to have to fold.
2) Fold the hand preflop to his bet, what a shame with AK.
3) Raise the bettor. Strong move that gives options after the flop. If no A or K hits and I face an EP bet, I can reraise and represent a higher pair. The downside is that I'll have invested a decent amount of chips at this point, and if the bettor either can't get away from his hand or plays back at me for any reason I have to fold.
The questions boils down to, what's the most reliable play with AK when heads up with a player likely to have a decent pair?
