Well - on what kind of a hand would you put villain, what is his range?
Is it profitable to put him on the fd or weak pair at any point?

Really depends on villain. His range if he's a 70/10 55% WtSD would obviously be very different from that of a rock.

A loose bad player might have an ace, a FD, possibly weaker pair. I would maybe lead turn as well, then check call river if a diamond doesn't hit (get some value from busted draw).

Against a decent player just check fold turn IMO.

I personally don't like the rag aces even in position...

Oh, and if villain check calls turn I might agree it's a little bit more likely to be a draw.
