I think I made the right play here, just wondering if anyone plays it different and why.

UTG $36.90 to start (13/3/19 with 4.5 post flop AF over 250 hands)

UTG raises to $2 folded to me.

With a 3% PFR, I can't put him on too big of a range there. My options are:

A) Call and possibly call off most of my stack if low cards hit and he has AA/KK
B) Re-raise and if he just calls, see what happens on the flop - fold if he 3-bets.

I like [B] more to get information. If he's a nit he'll only just call with A-K and 9-9 to J-J. Much better to get a feel where you are at pre-flop in this hand.

Call and re-evaluate. Best case scenario you are up against AK. Reraising is just dumb when you could easily be playing for set value only here. 3% PFR may only be raising AA and KK from UTG.

Your 3 bet range is usually AQ/AK and TT+...that's the range I meant. And I see SO many players NOT 4 betting AA/KK anymore (including me)...and getting people committed on the flop and either getting it in on the flop, or on the turn.

I've only not 3-bet AA myself on 4 occasions. 3 out of the 4x my opponent flopped a set, twice with KK and once with JJ. Fortunately I flopped a set one of those times myself, but I now I say the hell with it and 3-bet. I always 3-bet KK.

Lately I've opened up my 3-betting requirements to include not only the cards in my hand, but sometimes I'll do it just because of who raised or my position and for the most part it works. I don't like 3-betting AQ though because it could get you in trouble.

As far as this hand goes, I 3-bet to $6.50 and he came right back with $18. So, in retrospect I should have just called and played for a set, but how many times am I going to be doing that and letting AK see a free flop or letting JJ muscle me off the better hand? Am I going to save enough money vs AA/KK or catch enough sets to make up for that?
