a) You mentioned it already but FOLD THIS PREFLOP. No exceptions. Ever. Ever ever. Ever ever ever. Fold this if everyone limps in and you're the big blind. Just fold it.

b) Call the flop bet. Don't re-raise it. This is a highly vulnerable holding. You're beaten by about 1/2 the remaining deck on the next card, let alone the river. Pot-sized bettor could be put on a nut flush draw , a higher wrap, or possibly a set. You have no information here.

c) The turn blanked ... this is good ... but you're still beaten by about 1/2 the deck on the river. If he checks it to you, you make an aggressive bet that also minimizes your losses later ... say 60% pot for the possibility of folding a draw. Again ... you are NOT shoveling as much money as possible into the centre here. This is not the hand to make a stand on for your stack.

btw ... you didn't lose to a 2-outer ... you lost to a 4-outer ... either of the other 3s would have completed villain's straight. This was the absolute best case scenario for you, and given villain's particular holdings ... it was unlucky. That is ONLY because villain misplayed his hand terribly.

Thanks for the advice...no offense taken. I just wanted to see how bad the post flop play was. I was picking the diamonds as outs for myself as this player was a complete maniac, but point taken. When I was writing this up, I thought the 3s would give a split pot, but now I see. Thanks again.

What you did wrong was this: Yopu sucked at making the hand!! You should hit better.

The raise is bad because the edge is not substantial enough. This is for flopped nut straights when there are a lot of better draws out there. Better opportunities come and that's what you wait for. Villain has already taken the initiative here. I would call villain down even if a scary card hit, but for a smaller sized pot. (This is taking into account that villain may represent the scare draw 1/3 ot 1/2 the time. If no-one took a stab at this pot, I would lead but not re-raise.

Calling the flop ensures that you excercise pot-size control on this hand, and also sets you up to take it down on the turn with less resistance and villain on the defencive. Don't forget that six people saw this flop. That's a lot of ways to get outdrawn, especially by someone willing to take the initiative when there's a made straight already out there.

This should be a medium pot.
