After the bike ride, I needed to spend a long day on the couch. I broke down and fired some funds onto stars and played a 1002 hand session. It was really a tale of two sessions. In the first 430 hands, I lost 60 bbs. In the last 572 hands, I won 70 bbs to finish at +10 bb for the day.

I had buried aces four times and won all four for +30 and hand split aces eight times, which went 2-8 and lost a total of -50.

This is the first real stud cash session I have played since January. Time to mize up some wsop funds.

Holy christ 120 mile bike ride...??? Dood, you won't be able to get it up for a month...

Update. I threw a couple hundred on stars, ran it up a bit, then busted it down to $10 or so in the week after the bike ride. I then donked around for 4-5k hands playing breakeven micro 6-max and remembered why I hate hold em.

I recently went back to micro stud/razz/stud h/l and have been playing a bit, but will not be doing any heavy playing until the fishing season is over.

Kings close on July 13th, I am going dip netting for reds on the 14th (and the 19th if I dont limit out the first day), and the silvers start running sometime in mid-late july. My goal for the year was to have 100 pounds of fish stored by the end of the year. This involves catching 200-300 pounds of fish, as you lose 20-40% cleaning and ~50% of your fillet weight smoking.

I was recently reading the Alaska Outdoor Journal Private Fishing Report (where people post how the fishing is at various places) when I came across a post by the moderator responding to someone who had complained about people who posted that they caught a fish 10 minutes into a session. The moderator pointed out that this particular fishery is pretty tough and that often people had put in a good amount of time for the fish that they did catch. He estimated that there were probably 10 angler hours fished per king caught. I found this estimate very interesting. Because of this, I decided that I was going to track my fishing hours and locations so that I can break my fishing time down (and also track my results against the tides and adjust accordingly). Thus, the majority of entries in this journal will be recording fishing sessions, with a few poker hands thrown in.

Results so far

6/16 - little Siux - 4 hours
Fished 2.5 miles from the spike off the Point Mackenzie with Noah and Moe. Water was up, no boats fishing anywhere near us, nothing.

6/17 - Willow Creek - 1 hour
8 pm Shoulder to shoulder, no spin n glos on me

6/18 - Willow Creek - 2 hours
6 am, shoulder to shoulder, relatively hot combat fishing

6/18 - Eklutna - 8.5 hours
9am to 1:30 pm. Fishing was hot between 9-12:30 or so, 11 kings came out.
10 pm-2 am. Dead, saw two fish landed. Some guy had told us that it was hot from 1-4 am, but nothing was hitting and we were tired.

6/20 - Elkutna - 1.5 hours - 1 King 24 lbs 16 lbs filleted
Was supposed to meet some friends who didn't show up. Got there about 8, fishing picked up at 9, my fish hit at 9:20 and was landed at 9:30 and was the 5th landed in the time I was there.

6/22 - Eklutna - 2 hours
4 pm to 6 pm, not much going on.

6/26 - Ship Creek - 1 hour
Not much going on, didn't see too many fish caught.
