You played it perfectly. I initially questioned taking the lead on the hand or check-raising ... but the way this played out it went great.

My only other thought was check-raising to that maximum on the turn might have scared him out of the pot ... it was yours at that point ... so that's thinking that I would have bet less and lured him into donating ... however this method proved more effective in this case.
