Well, I was originally going to call this post something like "LP junk" until I looked again and saw that the hand wasn't really all that bad--although I would never play it in EP.

Anyhow, I think I'm going to start playing some hands a little worse than this (not much, but a little) with a similar idea--at least if I'm looking fairly nitty.

On to the hand: 2 limpers, and I limp KJ98 suited in diamonds to the K in LP. True, the hand has good high card value, but it's flaws are also obvious.

Flop comes Kh3s2s, and it's checked to me. I pot it. First thought, KK is fairly unlikely and would be completely crazy to check on this board unless there's an habitual stealer in LP, and I"m definitely not that. I also have 9 outs to top 2 plus 2 to another K (just to be ahead of potential AA or even AK). Moreover, I feel like I have decent chances of winning the pot outright at this table.

I get one call from short-stacked SB. I haven't seen him play really crazy or anything, but he does seem like he's also been betting a lot. That's about the extent of my read.

Turn is good for me--namely an offsuit 8, giving me top 2. I was going to check behind and hope for 2 pair on the river had I not made this, but now I have a real hand and am quite probably ahead. So, checked to me, I pot again and still get called.


River is an offsuit 7, making no straight or anything, and suddenly SB decides to push at me. I call, and he turns over AT73 with spade draw and spiked 2 little pair on the river.

This was actually my biggest pot of the session, so it all paid off.

Anyhow, the reason I'm posting it is that I thought it was a good example of how junk can pay in LP. Also, if I feel I have a strong image, I'm kind of planning on playing almost any suited A in LP with the intention of just calling on a flopped flush draw if there's any kind of straight in there and then bluffing the straight if it hits. For this move, I do think you have to keep a close eye on your own image as well as who you're playing against.

Basically, I feel like getting the LP VPIP up pretty good under certain conditions is probably not a bad idea and playing a fair number of hands with just some halfway decent high card value as well as possible nut flush draws.
