The point is that checking behind with a big pair on a pairer flop can be a good play because if the guy raises or check raises you, its a guessing game whether or not hes bluffing.
You probably wont be able to make 3 full bets (on 3 streets) anyway. You think he will call 3 increasingly bigger bets with 88?
The deeper you are, the more careful you have to be about playing big pots with just a pair, because the guy can make a big bluff at any point in the hand and youre in no mans land.
I didnt think about checking behind when I 1st read the post because of the flush draw, but I did say I would fold the turn. Looking back, I do like the flop check.
Once you check, hes going to bluff alot of turn cards and even if he has you beat, you can get to showdown alot cheaper with one less street of betting.
