$50 6 max - How would you play these AA hands

Postby Poker Hans » Tue Jul 03, 2007 5:15 pm

Following on slightly from my previous post regarding continuation bets, another difficulty I have is knowing when my [AA] is beaten and when the villian has caught TP or is simply chasing. At the lower levels you come across more players so its virtually impossible to keep notes on everyone you come across. You come across some serious donks who try some seriously crazy moves and without definate reads it can be hard to distinguish between the donks and the good player whos has you beaten.

As an example of this I'm posting a selection of hands, some of which I won and some of which I got stacked on. Assume no reads, just the usual mix of players. I'm hoping that you guys will post short and to the point notes on each hand, maybe indicating whether you would fold/call/shove and what you put the villians on will be sufficent. I'll post the results in a few days.

Thanks in advance and apologies for the long post.

Hand 1: Looks good, call shove obviously

Hand 2: Great flop for you, the most likely hand for the villain here is AK, a shove would be the way forward

Hand 3: Snap call, you always want to get all your chips in with AA vs a shortie, villain could have any two cards

Hand 4: Another trivial call

Hand 5: Shortstack, call. He could have a J, maybe flush draw, maybe ace rag, meh.

Hand 6: Bet 1/2 pot and fold to a shove. The flush is very unlikely, villain probably holds a K.

Hand 7: Without a specific read I would probably call and try keep the pot size small.

Hand 8: With such great pot odds, I cannot imagine not calling here.

Hand 9: Hero bets 2/3 of the pot, I would expect to see KK-JJ from the villain most of the time.

Hand 10: Value bet and fold to a raise

Hand 11: Bet to protect your hand, flopped flush is very unlikely

Hand 12: Call, open shove is most likely a draw or top pair

Recommend you post no more than 4 hands in the future

hand 1. yeah right.. like there's any doubt about it...

hand 2. fold.. he has a set.. if he's any good he won't limp anything but PP and strong hands there.. if he's any better than that, he will raise them... so, my guess is he has a set..

hand 3. call.. whatever he has, he is a short stack.. you call that with your eyes closed..

hand 4. call.. it's not even pot sized bet for crying out loud..

hand 5. see hand 4

hand 6. hero bets $30ish ..

hand 7. calls and check/calls turn/river perhaps?

hand 8. calls in disgust of thinking of not calling or any other action...

hand 9. hero goes all in..

hand 10. see hand 9

hand 11. hero checks and bets non diamond river..

hand 12. looks like an overpair and a draw.. i would probably fold, but tend to think it's more of a call...

i looked at Sem's suggestions now and I see that there are differences.. still, I currently stand by my answers Image

If the board looks dryish and the pot is not reraised preflop, I would try to keep the pot smallish, especially if there are no face cards. If the board looks drawy and/or the opponent is an idiot and/or if the pot is 3bet sufficiently preflop I would be more inclined to play for a bigger pot. Easiest thing to do is just flop trips or turn the nut flush though.
