Three big hands ($200PLO 6max)

Postby Ojingo » Fri Jul 06, 2007 8:07 am

These were the three most difficult hands I played last night on UB at the $200 6 max tables.
I'll tell you that I won two out of three. Comments on all plays are welcome.

Hand 1) At this table I have been getting a few decent hands pf with which I raised, but totally missed flops so have been giving up a lot. Villain in this hand has started to reraise me light, even OOP. One hand he isolated me from the SB with A972ss, so he must perceive me as too aggressive preflop and outplayable postflop.

I get JJT9 once suited in hearts in MP, I raise pot, villain in BB reraises pot, I call. We both have about $180 left.
Flop: [Qc][8c][2c]. Villain checks, I check behind (villain has tendency to checkraise).
Turn: [8d]. Villain bets $12 into the $51 pot. I think for a while and make it $50. Villain calls.
River: [3h]. Villain checks, I push allin for $130 in a $150 pot.

Hand 2) On another table, where my image is tight but solid. I have about $250. Opponent is unknown, but I've seen him take aggressive lines with weak hands and with air against people showing weakness. He has a double stack.

I get [Th][5c][9c][8h] in LP and raise pot after villain limps.
Flop: [Ts][6h][5h]. Villain checks, I pot, villain quickly calls.
Turn (pot=$50): [2c]. Villain quickly leads for the pot, I call.
River (pot=$150): [Qs]. Villain bets $135, I call.

Hand 3) Same table as hand 2), but different opponent (who saw hand 2 if he payed attention). Opponent seems to chase a bit and make some unusual plays here and there.
He has about $300, I cover.

I get [As][Qs][Js][6h] in LP and raise. Opponent in SB calls, rest folds.
Flop: [Jh][6c][5h]. Check, I pot, villain calls.
Turn: [Ac]. Check, I pot, villain calls.
River: [Qd]. Villain instantly pots, I call.

I realy wish I could help here but don't know if I can...

Hand. 1 I'd probably drop on the flop, just because I rarely make plays like this and when I try someone will call with just about anything here and I'd get beat. Just because it seems like against me people are able to make the craziest calls that happen to be winners. Although I think you won this one and he folded to the river bet.

Hand 2. For some reaosn I thnk he made a str8 here and I probably would've dumped on the turn.

Hand 3. I don't know if you won this one, I want to say you did... Maybe he put you on something like a busted draw? Anyways I would probably call here too. This is about the only one I can say I'd probably play it the same.

As I said I don't know if that's much help at all, but I am interested in hearing some more seasoned players analysis.

Hand 1, maybe your read's not great or this guy plays very inconsistently (I see lots of players who fit into the latter category!) - seems to me given his play in this hand and your description of some of his play, he might actually be decent but often prone to bad, gambling moves, and a bit of lag-ness. In light of that possibility, I think I'd give it up, with a heavy heart, on the river. I think if he views you as a "target" he might just look you up fairly light here. This is so read dependent I think it's very hard to give a correct answer, though... My best bet would be to consider popping the flop and, the way you played it, give it up on the riv.

Hand 2, I think I like your line, but I'd also consider pushing the turn (again, given your read) - he might've backed into a wierd two pair here or simply be trying to push you off a hand with a strong draw. 34 is a possibility, of course, but even in that situation you have as many as 15 outs. A sandbagged set off the flop is also possible (I'd play a set much like he did here, quite often) but again you're not in terrible shape. I think you're ahead often enough here that pushing him off his airy bluff or making him pay if he has a draw/weedy 2 pair is worth enough to offset the times you'll run into a set or straight. But yeah, I like your line too - I can't see folding this river, given your read.

Hand 3 is standard. He'll have a missed flush draw here at least the 35% of the time you require to turn a profit, although I do expect to run into broadway pretty frequently, you can't automatically give credit for backdoor draws, unless your opponent is excrutiatingly tight.

Pok 7s, folding the turn in hand 2 would be pretty bad IMO.
