Activity for 05/17/2006
3/6 limit hold'em full tables

Back to my winning ways today. I won $38 in 376 hands. I was up over $100, but then I lost it all when the flops started missing me, and I had KK which ran into AA and lost. Ugh. I also made a straight on the turn and lost to a higher straight, which was also made on the turn.

Finally, I won a couple of hands at the end. In one hand I had Ts 9s and flopped a 9 and got a ten on the turn for two pair, which was good enough to win.

In another hand I had KK, which held up to win.

Activity for 05/17/06, Wednesday:

PS + 38

Needed to go to next level:

PS + 1,446

May 1 to date:

PS + 1,141

ACTIVITY FOR JULY 2006
Limit hold'em full tables.

For the month of July, I didn't do very well, although I had a winning month, just barely.

Playing 3/6 at Pokerstars, I lost $339. My luck didn't seem to run very well at this site. For example, today I lost $29. In the key hand for the day, I had 99 against 22, and my opponent flopped a set of deuces and I lost.

Since I wasn't running well at Pokerstars, I played quite a bit at Paradise at lower limits and won $600.

So the monthly total of winnings was $261.

Hopefully, I will do better in next month.

ACTIVITY FOR AUGUST 2006
Limit hold'em full tables.

For the second straight month, I had a small profit. I didn't play much for the month.

Playing 3/6 at Poker stars, I won $43.

Playing 1/2 at Paradise, I lost $24. At one point I was up over $280, but I got greedy and tried to 2-table and lost most of the profits in one disasterous day thanks to some bad beats and bad play. I just don't do well when I try to play more than one table.

So overall, I made $19 for the month. Not very good, but better than losing I guess.

I also had a free entry to play in the Pokerstars Moneymaker Millionaire Freeroll, Round 1, so I decided to play for fun. The top 50 players get an entry into round 2. Out of the about 7900 players, I finished 256, which I guess isn't bad to finish in the top 3%, since I don't really play no limit and have only played in one other tournament, also a freeroll. In the tournament, I was short stacked and went all in with AQ in early position, and was called by 99. I got no help and was knocked out. Some memorable hands in the tournament were: 1) Limping in with pocket deuces and flopping a set and doubling up, 2) Getting pocket aces and raising preflop, and winning the blinds and 2 limpers' chip when they folded to my raise, and 3) Raising all-in in the big blind with AJ against 44 and A6, and tripling up when a jack came on the turn.

I might not play much in September, and instead concentrate more on work and my personal life. We'll see how it goes.

Still playing limit hold'em.

Postby woody » Fri Jul 13, 2007 11:55 am

I have not updated this journal for a while and thought that I would start it up again with occasional comments.

I was playing limit hold'em 3/6 full tables on pokerstars. In January 2007 I had a really bad month and lost $400. As a result, I decided that I didn't want to keep losing that kind of money every month, so I decided to drop down to the lower limits to work on my game. At the lower limits, I have been doing better and have made up the $400 loss and now, I am slightly ahead for the year. As of last night, I am up $44 in my play and earned a $150 bonus for a total increase in my bankroll of $194.

Besides, playing at 10 handed tables, I have decided to try an learn how to play at the 6 max tables. So I am playing 6 max at the lowest levels and trying to work up as I figure out the adjustments that are needed at 6 max, in comparison to the 10 handed tables.

Woody if you're planning on getting into shorthanded play check these sites.... There's some good info in there. Some of whihc was even written by our very own MK... When he wrote more coherently http://www.beat6max.com/

Also Hyper's strategy guide here: http://www.flopturnriver.com/6-Max-Limit-Guide.html has some good info in it too.. Keep n mind most of this related to playing at Part Poker a few years ago, when the games were really juicy. Times have obviously changed in the past few years and you'll need to adjust a bit, but it's still pretty good reading which might help with smoe general strategy ideas. On the right side of the page are links for the all the different stages of play.

Some basic concepts are treat UTG in 6 max as if the first 3 positions have folded to you in a FR game with your starting requirements. Also never limp first in, if you're coming in first raise. And blind defense and steals become a bit more important since blinds come around quicker.

Glad to see you posting again W. Good luck on those SH tables. They have just about beat me into submission on limit holdem. The key in my mind as is usually the case is table selection. When I was really paying attention to that I was playing very few tables and whipping some pretty good ass but when I went back to 10 tabling ran like shit for 80K hands or so and most of it was my fault for playing at bad tables. The stuff that MK has written in past post is pretty good stuff. I think following those guidelines and being selective on your tables you should not have a problem.
