Trip report. Titled: Rhound Runs Bad
Rhound and I went to Barona Valley casino tonight, it's an 18+ place about 30 minutes away. He picked me up around 2ish and after getting slightly lost on the way (due to him sucking at mapquesting) we arrived just before 3. The poker room was pretty nice, kinda small I thought but I really don't have much to compare it to (read: 1 casino being in melbourne). We put our names on the 1/3 and 2/5 lists (biggest games they spread) and fairly soon they started a new 2/5 table which we sat at. The buyin was $300 to $1,000 and we both bought in for $500, he had direct position on me for the entire night.
Within 5 minutes the following two hands took place:
Hand #1) UTG limps, MP limps, couple of other limpers somewhere in there, SB raises to $15 (umm ok) everyone calls. The flop is KQ9 with 2 hearts and it's checked to the PFRer who bets like $40, UTG calls, MP calls. The turn is a 9 and the SB leads for $100 or so. UTG calls. MP raises to $220 or something. SB shoves allin for maybe $150 more. UTG calls, again. Now MP shoves all-in for $1k total. UTG calls, again. River is a 4 or something.
SB had J9o (nice pfr), MP had A9o (nice hand sir) and UTG had the allmighty beautiful KTo.
Hand #2) UTG from the previous hand has been shoving all in preflop for about $150 several hands in a row now. He says he will do it again (he's in the blinds so can only do it when action is on him). I think there are two limpers in EP then the CO makes it $25 or so, SB (chick tighter than anything) shoves allin for $350 or so, the BB is the guy who was already allin for $150 or so, now one of the limpers calls the $350 leaving $200 behind or so, now the next limper calls the $350 with plenty behind and I think the original raiser also called putting himself allin. A flop is dealt, 852r or something, action is only left between the two limpers - the first shoves and the second insta-calls with 55 to scoop the entire pot, $2k or something.
SB had 99, BB had KJ, 1st limper had JJ, 2nd had 55, I can't remember what the other guy had. Loool.
Rhound and I rebuy another $500 at this point.
From here till about an hour before we leave (1am) the table is the complete opposite basically of what we saw. Everyone tightened up, the donators left and we were stuck with some bad/tight players.
Here are a bunch of hands that I can remember:
I have
in the BB and it's limped around, I check. Flop is
and I bet $20, there are 3 callers. Turn is another 6, i check, it gets checked around. The river is the
and I check, checks to MP who bets $50, folds to me and I make it $175 - she folds.
I have
and open to $20 in late position, I get 2 callers I think. Flop is
and the first checks to me, i bet $45 or something and get a caller behind. Turn is the beautiful
and I bet $120 or so, she calls. The river is an ugly
and I check, she checks and mucks when I show my hand. I was probably calling a bet on the river but it would've been close.
The biggest pot I lost all night: CO raises to $20 or something, sb calls, I call in the BB with
. The flop is J72r and it checks to the PFRer, he very quickly bets $45, sb folds, I call. Turn is an offsuit 8 and I check, CO bets $100 and I make it $300. He makes it $600. I think for a while and fold, he says he had trip jacks and I believe him (he wouldn't 3bet there with an overpair).
I made a tonne of money raising hands like K7s and what not when there were limpers and I was in LP or calling raises with 45o and raising a tonne of flops. The players were very weak in general.
The biggest pot I won all night: UTG straddles to $10 and UTG+1 calls, I look down at aces and make it $45. Rhound repops me to $100 straight I think. Folds to the BB who shoves for $300 or so total. I think for a bit and smooth call. Rhound and I are about $900 deep at this point. He also calls $200 more. Flop is J82 with a flush draw and I bet, he folds pretty quickly and said he had queens. The other guy mucks whatever he had.
Another fairly big hand I won: I raise in EP to $20 with QQ. I had been playing pretty laggy and was by faaaar the loosest/most aggressive player at the table. I got 2 callers, the BTN and BB I think. The flop is T93r or something and BB checks, I bet $45 and they both call. The turn is a brick and BB checks, I bet $100 and BTN folds, BB calls. The river is an A and he quickly bets $250-$300, I think for a while and eventually call. He had JTo. Not quite sure what he was doing (valuebetting? bluffing? he had no idea i'm sure) but it just goes to show how playing laggy can make other people play horrible. He was generally a tight player outside of that.
Now for what you probably won't believe. I missed TWO flush draws.. wtf? I hit one near the end (was a one-card one though so I didn't get paid a lot). Now for what you will believe. Rhound ran bad. He lost about $500 with 78 < AA on an A728 board (he'll probably post the hand in more detail in his journal) and was just not hitting anything. He had OESD that if he hit he would get stacks that he missed, and the two sets he did hit he got zero action on. Now I must say I tried my best to let my luck rub off on him but it didn't seem to work. I think that hand and the hand when he had QQ to my AA were his big losing ones - other than that it was a lot of getting QQ and AK flopping etc etc. Totally fun guy to be around/play with though and looking forward to the next casino visit. Hopefully vegas if I can get my hands on a fake ID somehow.
All up I ended +$400 or so and he was down about $800. We had an interesting prop bet - there was this guy to our left who was a pretty bad player, not the worst at the table, but definitely the type to leak chips away - but he was hitting good and was up a bit for the night. Anyway he told this one bad beat story about 2-3 times in the first couple of hours that we were at the table to me, rhound, others at the table, the dealer, etc. We set the over/under on how many times he'd say it again for the rest of the night at 2 and I took the over. Anyway he kept going on about bad beat stories and other hands he played fairly continuously for the night but said that one we bet on 2 times so the bet was a push. I bet if we stayed longer I would've won that bet >.<
I'm sure I've missed some parts that rhound will add but i'm tired and it's late and i wanna go to bed. GN.
Poker is silly.
It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.
Somewhere in the world someone is training when you are not. When you race him, he will win.
