I genuinely do not understand this game. I barely even understand the rules. All I know is I'm getting tired of having top set, full house, flush, etc. splitting the pot with 23 or whatever. I just feel like I'm constantly losing to the rake.

Educate the noob! Where is the value made in O8 when you seem to split like 100% of the time?

1) you definitely DON'T split 100% of the time.

2) the split part is what makes the variance in this game stupid low

3) you love donks who make this flop call since you get to put them in a pickle on the turn.

4) you love donks who make this flop call since you'll be able to quarter them mercilessly with hands as weak as nut low draw + TP.

5) you love donls who call down your bets like this because they won't push you off your weak hands when drawing one way.


as for analysis, the turn card sucks for you. as you move up, you'll find that you'll be cred here quite a bit with a bare nut low, and you won't know where you're at with your set.

in low-limit nlo8, when you flop a hand on a board like this, sometimes you can just push and get the low draws to come along at an incorrect price (i.e., you're making sklansky bux). as played, you had more equity than you probably thought on each street due to the fact that an A or 2 could screw up his made low.

when there's a low or a low draw out, a lot of your equity in o8 against a "reasonable range" of hands is not going to be that high unless you've got a rare monster (e.g., set + nld). as such, you can gain A LOT of equity in high-only hands and in generating fold equity. at 10nlo8, fold equity can be hard to find, so the other option is to wait for the nuts and charge the hell out of people who can't fold big-looking hands (e.g., bare top set on a low str8 brd when you have a low str8).
