PLO win rate

Postby JLenart » Wed Jun 15, 2005 6:58 am

Hi all,

I picked up PLO a month ago playing $25 and $50 PLO tables on UB. I've really taken a liking to this game and now run PTO when playing.

My question is this, for those who play PLO, what win rate are you seeing in BB/100 hands?

My sample is still very small, only 3500 hands but I'm seeing a win rate of 34BB/100 hands. Is this something I can continue to see?

I like to think I do a good job of finding games with players who are lookingto gamble and call big bets without the nuts.

Anyway, my PLO adventure has been very profitable so far.

Weclome to the forum J.

I can't comment too much on your win rate (as I'm sure you know it is too short a time frame to tell) - but in general you can expect a slightly higher win rate in Omaha over Hold'em simply because of the people who don't know how to play.

Monk should be able to clarify about the win rate. If he doesn't get back to you soon - we'll send out a search party and have him lynched...

And again - welcome to the forum.

Hey there John, nice of you to drop by!

If you're very very good you can indeed expect to win in the 30-35BB/100 region, yup. In a truly appalling game perhaps even more, but I'd think 35BB/100 would be at the top end, and most games above the 25 buyins are probably a touch too tight for that to be sustainable. Playing 2 or 3 tables of 25/50 buyin PLO, with PTO, a good game, and concentration, I think 35BB/100 would be possible, then.

Long term I tend to hover somewhere just over the 25BB/100 region, but I do play 6-8 tables at once. Playing fewer, making better opponent notes, and concentrating more on the game might push that winrate up to 30BB+ (last year I made about 30BB/100 playing fewer tables). I've just had two brilliant months since the last time I looked into it in any detail, so chances are it's nearer 30BB/100 now anyway. Anything over 20 is very good. For reference, those figures are from the 100 games, though I make something comparable at 200. My winrates for PLO8 are a fair bit lower but still decent.

Although omaha's more profitable in the BB/100 stakes, hands are usually dealt a fair bit slower in omaha than in NL, which kind of negates the advantage, in terms of HOURLY rate.

Best of luck with your 4-card adventure, anyhow, sounds like you're doing well. As in limit, I think you're looking at 20,000 hands before you get anything like a really representative view of your winrate, though, but I'd reckon it should easily level out above 20BB/100, perhaps well above it. Post some hands sometime!

Cheers,

Monk

The reason I like PLO is it's the only game of poker I've played where I feel I just really can't lose, with the tables I select. I just feel totally confident playing knowing that if I play ONLY PLO it's close to impossible for me to have a losing month, let alone lose my BR. It CAN be swingy but in all honesty I've found the variance to be lower (by some distance) than my play in HE and SnGs. Bizarrely, possibly PLO8, the game most people estimate to be one of the most swingy around, seems to be my least variance-filled game. It's rare I have a downswing of more than 4 buyins in PLO8, I think 6 is about my maximum in PLO.

Bare in mind that the play at 25PLO is close to abysmal pretty much everywhere though; bigger games are much more profitable of course but the play does cinch up a few notches, especially at UB. bizarrely, I've found the 400PLO to be consistently the best game there, more so than 100 and 200 usually. The 1k and 2k games at Party also seem to generally have higher (comparatively) average pots than the 200s and 400s. Go figure!

Uhh...maybe you want to adjust my numbers after last night. Lost 2 stacks, one when my flopped tens full of fives lost to turned quad fives and one when my AA3x ran into AA2x. Since the 2 happened within 3 hands of each other I figured it was a good night to watch some Beavis and Butthead instead. Heh heh.

Hey J,

Didn't know you were here. I'm new here too, good to see a friendly face. Don't let my new screen name fool you

I was wondering the same thing, since my win rate is not what I'm used to playing mostly limit. I don't have PT for Omaha so I'm not sure but i have to figure about 25-30 BB/100 and am very surprised b/c i don't fell like I was very lucky.

I'm only at 25$. I don't have the BR to try anything higher with a total of 800$ now. I'm in still in "build" mode.

I love being able to limp so much pf and even call raises pf. I also feel I can WAY outplay the rest on the flop even though i have little experience in anything that's not limit, and I'm loving it.

I feel my loosing hands are loosing little and my winning hands are winning big. I feel I’m controlling how big the pot is.

I'm curious to know if this is only in PLO or if I’d feel like this in regular NLHE (I must be the only person in the history of everything ever to try the move in that direction PLO-->> NLHE. He he :) )

Good to see you,
Avram
