NL100 - deep QQ river question

Postby RedBarracuda » Thu Nov 01, 2007 4:41 pm

CO is a regular PF miniraiser and a donk..I dont know how, but he's always the big stack when i look at the tables in the lobby, and i never really had a chance to play with him more..He is xtra loose and not good. That's why i am a bit afraid here since his range is huge, I and am interested how often is this a blocker/cheap steal on the river by villain? Should I be raising or calling this with my overpair? How often? Stack sizes?
My turn bet should probably be bigger, but I am usually comfortable with betting around 1/2 pot on turn and it's my standard bet there..

$0.5/$1 No Limit Holdem
6 players
Converted at

Stacks:
UTG ($82.73)
UTG+1 ($45.57)
CO ($204.65)57/36/ 1.18 / 23% / 57% / 220 hands
Hero ($218.71)
SB ($99.18)
BB ($55.39)

Pre-flop: ($1.5, 6 players) Hero is BTN [Qd][Qs]
1 fold, UTG+1 calls $1 ($44.57), CO raises to $2 ($202.65), Hero raises to $8 ($210.71), 2 folds, UTG+1 folds ($44.57), CO calls $6 ($196.65)

Flop: [4s][Tc][6s] ($18.5, 2 players)
CO checks ($196.65), Hero bets $14 ($196.71), CO calls $14 ($182.65)

Turn: [4h] ($46.5, 2 players)
CO checks ($182.65), Hero bets $25 ($171.71), CO calls $25 ($157.65)

River: [5h] ($96.5, 2 players)
CO bets $25 ($132.65), $25 to Hero ($171.71)?

Im gonna call here.

He either has a boat here (maybe 78s for a straight) or a missed draw. Cant fold to that 1/4 pot bet and you arent getting called by a better hand if you raise.

How come such a weak bet on the turn? I would have bet like 35 here.

Turn bet is weak. This river looks like a blocker with a hand like AT. I would raise...$75 seems a bit small but its not bad. Maybe anywhere from 75-100.

Beyond looking at just this hand, I think a call here would be good because you'll get to see what he had so that in the future when he donk bets into you on the river you can make a better decision. Yes there are a ton of reasons to raise this but looking at the long term, a note on how he bets might be worth more than the extra $50-75 you might make this one time (plus he could fold and you'll never know what he had).

personally, I like a call on the river as he'll most likely fold to a river raise

I don't understand why to make such a big turn bet... it's a loose player who seems to be winning... if he did take into account that u 3 bet him preflop he's probably not calling too much on turn. why force his most likely holding of TP/lower pp out? He is not gonna call the river shove with those if he decided to call the big turn bet, is he?
