Although I have spent a lot of time on this forum reading and learning, I never post so you folks don't know me. Reason I don't post is not because I don't want to help out others, but simply because I don't consider myself good enough to give advice.

I started playing about a year ago I think, don't remember exactly when. I played for a couple of months and won about 2500$. I then cashed out because I hardly had any time to play because of real life. And now I'm back!

Because I haven't played much for a couple of months I decided to start from scratch again, so I deposited 50$ and have been playing 10NL. 3 weeks and 18.000 hands later I have been running at 20 BB/100. Before yesterdays session I was running at 25 BB/100, but I had a bad session yesterday. I am satisfied with my 20BB/100 winrate, but I'm not sure how good/bad it is because it's only 10NL? What would be a "good" winrate at this level? If I am correct I could start playing 25NL once my BR hits 500$, and that is what I am planning to do. Unless 20K hands at 10NL is not enough?

Below are the hands I lost most, but I feel confident it's just bad luck and I don't think I'm playing bad. If you disagree, feel free to let me know
Since I am more or less a beginner any comments are more than welcome.

I played a session of about 2,000 hands yesterday, and I didn’t run good at all: except for one I lost with all my sets. Couple of set over set, and the rest all kinds of draws hitting: flush, straight & double pairs turning into a (higher) FH. Fortunately most of the time I was all-in with short-stacks, so I didn't loose much very often.

Despite losing a couple of buy-ins due to bad luck, the good news is I still ended up +36$. A lot of this money came from 2 players that were really bad. For some reason everyone left the tables when these guys sat with a couple of buy-ins in front of them, but off course I didn’t leave and played them HU. Once HU I was patient and after a while succeeded in getting all-in a few times as a big favourite.

I don’t remember much individual hands worth posting, but I have been struggling with higher pocket pairs – especially OOP. AA & KK I re-raise big PF if I get the chance, sometimes even QQ depending on my read on the villain. But I’m not sure how to play JJ or 1010… A typical scenario is:

Hero is dealt JJ (EP)
Hero raises to 3-4x BB
2-5 callers
Flop A 5 2 rainbow.
Hero bets potsize
1 or 2 callers
Hero???

I’ve been thinking to stop raising these pairs PF, and play them like low PP’s. Another solution maybe is not C-betting, no matter how dry the flop is? I am sure I’m not the only one who is having problems with this, so I’ll try to find answers in the forums. But first I’m off for another session, hopefully I run a bit better tonight.

No problemo.

I take it that you are American? If so then your choice of site is obv limited.

In regards to the 6 max/FR debate, I'm not sure that I agree that better players play 6 max. That said I haven't played FR in over a year now. I find FR to be full of set miners and nut peddlers, where as in 6 max you find a bunch more willing to stack off with TPTK when you flop a set on them. You can bet your good draws aggressively and get paid off when they hit, as most just don't see it coming.

If you're stats suggest you're quite tight/passive then you'd have to change your game for 6 max but again, without seeing your stats I couldn't tell you whether your game would suit 6 max.

As for more callers calling your bets when you have premium hands, I assume you mean like 3 or 4 callers when you have big hands like aces, kings etc? If so that's a backward way to look at it mate.

Big pairs do not do well 3 or 4 handed. You need to get HU with premium pre flop hands like aces etc. Anyway...

If you're happy at FR, and winning, then fair enough. But it's my experience that the majority of donks reside at 6 max, and the majority of nut peddlers and set miners live at FR.

If you did want to move to 6 max then post some PT stats up and I'll be happy to give my advice on what you need to do to change your game to suit 6 max. I'm not a great player by any stretch of the imagination but I have done pretty well at 6 max games at your level and would be happy to pass on anything I have learned form others on this forum.

As for the JJ/TT issue, they are obv very difficult hands to play OOP, especially FR. Rather than fold them in EP (which I think is uber weak tight) try raising more than a standard 3 x the BB. Don't do this like, everytime otherwise eventually even the retards will figure it out. When an ace or kings flops, your cbets will work a bunch more often when you are isolated with one player rather than playing JJ in a 4 way pot OOP. Yuck.

Hello all,

First of all: thanks for the advice, it's appreciated! I allready knew about the basic 6-max strategy, but since I have a tendency to play very tight it doesn't hurt to have a couple of coaches reminding me to raise more PF. I played a session of about 1200 hands 10NL 6-max yesterday. Things went well, ended up 50$.
Played a 5$ MTT as well and lost a coinflip AK vs 55 when there were 6 of us left, won about 60$ here.(I normally play a 1$ every now and then, but just missed registration for that so took a shot at the 5$)

I have been playing very aggressive on the cut-off and especially OTB as suggested, but it is very hard to me to raise Q10 since I have been playing very tight lately. Because I'm raising a lot more I notice my raises are not respected as much anymore, which sometimes makes me too carefull post-flop I think. Problem is some players start playing back at me, and I find it very difficult to be aggressive against them. Here's an example of a hand where I am pretty sure he had air or at least a weak hand, but I didn't have the balls to bet the turn. (He was allways floating, and raising me when I showed weakness)

I also don't understand fully why to raise all PP's from every position. Don't get me wrong; I believe this is the correct thing to do since better players tell me, but I don't fully understand WHY this is the correct play. I used to limp with PP's in a lot of situations, and I feel like I was making more money that way: your set is completely disguised and two-pairs or even TPTK will pay you off. Now if you raise your PP people know you might have a very strong hand, and will fold more when you do hit your set. Another problem with raising is one hits only every now and then with a PP, and if people play back it is very difficult to play a (low) PP post-flop. I understand raising all PP's is important for building your image at the higher limits, but I'm sure this is not very important at 10NL?

I downloaded PokerEV & set-o-meter to check just how hot I was running: seems like I have been flopping a bit more sets than I should have, but very close to normal. I was rather unlucky when it comes to flopping sets vs overpairs & AA vs KK.

Image

Using PokerEV it is now proven that I have been running good, but I don't understand much about the other charts and graphs. For example: I am in the red for non-showdowns. Does this mean I'm folding too much? I'd also like to understand the bet/equity graph. In the next couple of weeks I'll spend some time learning to work with this tool.

Image

That's it for now, see you at the tables!

Since my BR was above 600 I decided to take a shot at 25NL. I wish I didn't
Long story short: I'm back to 500. I don't think I played too bad however, I feel it's just a bit bad luck.

I lost 3 buy-ins to a guy that was playing "super system": if he had an out, he was all-in! He got me to fold two times in the beginning of the session when I bet my AK after hitting. Once I realised what game he was playing I patiently waited to bet/raise/call his all-ins whenever I had a good hand. This happened twice, and he hit his draw both times :? I'm not the only who lost, he was up about 8-9 buy-ins after a while, I don't think he missed a draw for a big pot.

The other buy-ins I lost were a set that ran into a flopped straight, and double pair vs higher double pair. I also lost the two hands below, maybe I didn't play these well so comments are welcome.

EverestPoker Game #2308109228: Table Muscat-25 - $0.15/$0.25 - No Limit Hold'em - 23:34:45 - 2007/11/02
Seat 1: Hero ($27.58)
Seat 2: miguelmig ($3.50)
Seat 3: shawn_escT ($24.20)
Seat 4: NINA97 ($28.91)
Seat 5: Wiesio ($22.95)
Seat 6: ThE_SoNiC ($26.75)
NINA97 posts the small blind of $0.15
Wiesio posts the big blind of $0.25
The button is in seat #3
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to Hero [3c] [3s]
ThE_SoNiC folds
Hero raises to $0.90
miguelmig folds
shawn_escT folds
NINA97 calls $0.75
Wiesio calls $0.65
*** FLOP *** [3h] [Ah] [7h]

I figure the chance of someone holding two hearts is small, so I bet to make FD's pay.On top of that I got a good chance to improve to a FH

NINA97 checks
Wiesio checks
Hero bets $2.70
NINA97 calls $2.70
Wiesio folds
*** TURN *** [3h] [Ah] [7h] [2d]

Not really a scare card, so I bet again.

NINA97 checks
Hero bets $8.10
NINA97 raises to $25.31 and is all-in

??? WTF ???
Not sure what to do here, but I assume he flopped the flush OR he is drawing and tries to bluff me out. I have to call 16 for a pot of 53 so I decide to call (hoping the board pairs or he is bluffing indeed)

Hero calls $15.88 and is all-in
Uncalled bet of $1.33 returned to NINA97
*** SHOW DOWN ***
NINA97 shows [5h] [4c]
Hero shows [3c] [3s]
*** RIVER *** [4h]
*** SUMMARY ***
Board: [3h][Ah] [7h] [2d] [4h]
NINA97 collects $53.26

EverestPoker Game #2308564468: Table Muscat-43 - $0.15/$0.25 - No Limit Hold'em - 01:32:10 - 2007/11/03
Seat 1: loasdvy ($28.36)
Seat 2: Mindkiller1 ($39.16)
Seat 3: Hero ($38.87)
Seat 4: TheVax ($25.70)
Seat 5: 9thomas9 ($30.62)
Seat 6: SheriffenCW ($24.75)
9thomas9 posts the small blind of $0.15
SheriffenCW posts the big blind of $0.25
The button is in seat #4
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to Hero [Qh] [Qs]
loasdvy folds
Mindkiller1 calls $0.25
Hero raises to $1.15
TheVax folds
9thomas9 folds
SheriffenCW calls $0.90
Mindkiller1 raises to $2.05
Hero raises to $7.45

I re-raised to get information: if he would have shoved it I would have folded.
Since he called, I put him on AK or KK. He probably puts me on AA

SheriffenCW folds
Mindkiller1 calls $5.40
*** FLOP *** [9s] [Js] [Jc]

Since I think he has either AK or KK, I bet and expect him to fold.

Mindkiller1 checks
Hero bets $10.00
Mindkiller1 calls $10.00

He calls, but doesn't push. I don't really understand this but I'm pretty sure he hasn't got a J. Put him on KK because I dont think he'll call AK here, unless its AsKs

*** TURN *** [2c]

Mindkiller1 checks

I represent AA here, and I think he won't call KK

Hero bets $21.42 and is all-in
Mindkiller1 calls $21.42
*** SHOW DOWN ***
Mindkiller1 shows [Kh] [Kd]
Hero shows [Qh] [Qs]
*** RIVER *** [4d]
*** SUMMARY ***
Board: [9s] [Js] [Jc] [2c] [4d]
Mindkiller1 collects $76.04

I probably should have let it go after the flop?
If I had had a HUD here I probably wouldn't have lost a buy-in: Villain was an obvious calling station according to PT.

Anyway, I'm back to 10NL. Maybe I'll try opening 1 table of 25NL once (IF? ) I hit 550 instead of moving up on all tables.

Hand 1, cooler. Bet sizes are fine, maybe a slightly bigger bet on the turn but w/e. Make sure you don't leave that room until you take that retards stack.

Hand 2

I think you screwed this turn up. You think he has KK, ok, nice read but there's no way on god's earth he is folding KK here.

Check behind on the turn and go from there.

If this guy's a CS type, I'm figuring his hand range for RR PF is KK, AA and AK.

You're flipping with one of those and way behind the other two. Just call with position and see a flop, as you are acting after him, you can see what he does.
