How much is too much? What does it all mean...

Postby Stoneburg » Wed Jun 15, 2005 7:14 pm

It would be nice to have a more firm idea of what the numbers really mean. For example:

Pre Flop Raising
I have AQ in late position, someone in middle position raise...
If he has a pfr of <3 It's an auto-fold for me, if it's 6+ I tend to call.
This is far from an exact science for me at the moment though and I'd like to know if someone has a better idea of what the numbers mean. Like:
<3 = QQ-AA & AK
3-5 = JJ-AA & AQ+
etc etc (I made these up on the spot, no correlation to real stats)

Went To Showdown
This stats seems important in deciding who to bluff. I'm at 30% and my uneducated guess would be that it's a bit too high. But how high? Seems like most people are in the 25-40 range here, together with "folded to river bet" this should be a good indicator of whether to bluff someone so it would be good to know more about it.

I just checked a guy who's marked as a CS, and he has a WTS of 37% but a "fold to river bet" of 67%, it would seem to me that he chases a lot and gives up when he doesn't hit. His aggression goes from low on the flop to high (2.29) on the river, which also seems to indicate that he makes his hand on later streets (ie: drawing), or am I misreading? It would seem that the correct play against this guy would be to bet any real hand on the flop/turn and check the river, while you bet the river unless a draw hit when you don't have a hand. Yes?

Post Flop Aggression
I'm ranked as UA but I really don't consider myself *that* aggressive. My stats are
Flop: 3.2
Turn: 2.6
River: 1.8

Now I bet pretty often on the flop without the values. So I would guess that anyone with more than 3 in aggression there should be considered "somehwat bluffy".. but how much for a habitual bluffer? How much for a maniac? I have a guy with a river aggression of 21 in my database, now I remember him basically going all-in on every other river.. but how much do you need before it is time to start calling those all-ins with TPTK?

most good aggressive players end up as UA's - the surprisinbg thing is how few of them there are.. (at least at less than 200+ hands played)

That's good to know, but what about the other issues?

Also, vpip, do you have any "rules" there?
