How do they do it?

Postby JJSCOTT2 » Sat Jun 18, 2005 3:23 pm

Ok, lets say you're at the WSOP or some other large field, live, important tournament.
And lets say that top 200 places pay out, 200-151 pay out lets say, 14000, and 150-140 pay out 20000, just for example.

So there are 153 players left, and all of a sudden, 5 people bust out and get up at roughly the same time. This seems fairly likely to happen because that's still 16 tables worth of players. So how do they figure out at exactly who went out when to decide which guys are 153, 152 and 151 and which guys are 150 and 149?

playing hand for hand live with over 150 players left? you think that tournament would be finished in less than a decade? I mean, I don't know, but that doesn't sound right.

I don't know about live but if 2 or more go (say due to all ins) it usually reverts back to starting chips ie. the person with 2K will finish ahead of the person with 1K before the hand started
I did say no to drugs..... They just didn't listen

In that situation, I can almost guarrentee it goes to hand for hand. I've played a couple semi-large live tourneys, where the top 50 or so made the money, and there was no problem doing hand for hand with 6 tables.

Yeah, I know it's a double post but I guess if for some reason, it is undeterminable who should rank higher, they would probably, assuming the placing was not too high, just expand the payout.

Like this for example:

%20 people enter top, top 52 pay, there are 53 people left.

At one table, two identical stacks move all in, and lose to a bigger stack.

They would, by my theory, chance the pay out so that 53 pay out.

A different scenerio being this:

Same payout, but they are down to 41, 41-52 get 10k, 40-30 get 14k.

Two people go out with the same stack, at the same time, they add up the total, 24k, and split it, thus both recieving 12k.

I am not certain about the first example, but I have heard the second one a couple times, from different people. Obviously it might not be true, but oh well.

Most big Tourney's will go hand-for-hand at every payout level change. But you can still have more than one go out at the same time. Some will use the 'Biggest Stack", others will add all the places together and then split it. It all depends on how each is set up.
