Sick hands LIVE 1/2 NL

Postby johnnie_naked » Sun Nov 18, 2007 8:45 am

You win some, you lose some...but this is just indicative of the sick SICK run of cards Ive been taking lately.

Tell me how I played them plz.

#1
[As][Kd] OTB. My stack is $335, LAG beginner has $150 behind.

2 limpers, I pump it to $15 PF.

LAG SB calls, EP calls.

FLOP ($47)

[As][3d][7c]

LAG bets $20, I call (RR here?)

TURN ($87)

[9d]

LAG bets $15, I call

RIVER

[10h]

LAG bets $15. Worried about the 10, I call.

He flips A2 and says 'aces' lol. Could I have played it better?

#2
Hows my line?

[2d][2h] in SB, My stack is $200

Mediocre somewhat tight player has $150 OTB. Makes it $8.

I call, BB calls, MP calls.

FLOP ($32)

[2s][7h][9d]

Checked to OTB. He bets $25. I smooth call, one caller behind.

TURN ($107)
[4d]

I check, BB checks. Button bets $25 (????these players suck, trust me)
I raise all in, BB folds and he instacalls with [Jd][Jc]

BB claims to have folded AJ

RIVER

[Jh]

SO SO SICK

#3

Call ok?

I have $355, SB has about $180

SB been making some moves lately. I'm on the CO with

[Ah][5h]

7 limpers, I make it $6, 7 callers.

FLOP ($42)

[Ac][Ad][3h]

checked to me. I fire $35. SB calls, MP calls.

TURN ($147)

[10s]

SB pushes all in. I think hes making a move here, hes been betting out a lot at paired boards and I decide I want to be the one to catch him. My line of thinking is: at least a 50% chance he's making a move here, if he is I have him. If he does have an ace, I either got him or he has me outkicked but there is high likelihood he is not far ahead because I am 100% sure he would reraise PF with A10 +. So I'm contesting for a win or a chop.

I call, he flips A2. Ok, we chop it I guess. Only 3 cards beat me, 7 cards beat him and the rest chop it.

RIVER

[2c]

FUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKKKK!

#4
Same guy vs. me. He is in SB again. I have [Ah][10h] on the button. I have $375, he has about $100

CO raises to $6 and I call. SB calls.

FLOP ($20)

[Qh][7h][Qd]

checked to me, I bet $15. SB raises to $30. I call, thinking KQ or something. Cool.

TURN ($80)

[9h]

SB checks. Hmmm, I check.

RIVER ($80)

[4s]

He bets his last $55. DO I have to call here??? I think he has a strong Queen, but no FH. I think I am ahead more times than I am behind against this guy.

I do, and he shows 77.

Hand #1 - I think it's ok to "just call" the flop sometimes here, but you have to raise this guy all-in on the turn every single time. Idiots don't fold A-Q/A-J/A-10/A-8/etc. there.

Hand #2 - I really don't like the check-call followed by CRAI on a mono-tone board in a raised pot with a set (because it absolutely screams "MONSTER!!!") - I'd lead this flop weak like $15 and just call a raise (probably followed by leading weak on the turn or checking depending on the player).

I guess if the players are as bad as you say (and appear) to be, you can just check-call with sets and they'll bet off all their money, but try to build the pot up so it's easier to get it in there.

River is a cold-deck.

Hand #3 - Looks like a crying-call based on your read but I'd still fold - nothing you really beat here, don't see how anyone (no matter how bad they are) can call a raise OOP and then check-call a raise on the flop, lead all-in on the turn and not have an Ace here.

If I raised A-5 suited, 5 people called and the flop came A-A-3 I'd check behind most of the time because I'm either wayyy behind or wayyy ahead.

Either you are murdered by a better Ace or you've gotta dodge a couple 2 outters. Probably a good spot to check (especially in a game where someone will make as bad a play as this guy - lead AI on the turn with A-2 only gets called by better hands, that guy must be like a broken ATM machine).

As played, river is a cold-deck still.

#4 - Pretty much a cold-deck. If the guy had more money I'd play it differently and could get away from it but most of the time this guy stacks me, way too often players who buy-in short play Q-x like that against me.

When you have a sick run of cards you need to look at it and see if it really is just a sick run of cards or are you making some mistakes. The hands you have posted are both, instead of just looking at how bad you are running start looking at the way you can fix some leaks in your game.

Hand 1: As was said by Ice and Devbert, you need to raise here somewhere. If these players are so bad this guy is going to give you more value than you get from calling/calling/calling if you raise. You lost value on this hand.

Hand 2: I dont like your line at all, checking a set twice is bad, you are asking for someone to suck out on you. After 2 people call his flop bet bettor checks, if the other guy is on a draw you give everyone a free card to beat you. I dont mind the call on the flop though I might raise against players who are this bad especially oop against both of them. It didnt cost you anything this hand but you line is bad.

Hand 3: Your preflop raise is bad, if you get 7 callers than you either need to make a much larger raise or just limp. I would suggest against this group just limping. This looks like a good flop for you but it really isnt that great. There is nothing that can call a bet that doesnt have you beat or a good chance of chopping. There is almost not draw that can beat you. I would check the flop behind. If you get called you are either way behind, or chopping. You want to keep the pot small.

Hand 4: I'm not a big fan of calling a 6x raise with AT, though that is borderline. Everything else is fine, yes you do have to call the river. I actually don't mind checking the turn, if he has a naked 7 and thinks it might have been good on the flop you might still get all his chips by checking behind the turn, there is no way you are folding the river but this way you maximize the number of hands that can give you all their money.

Running bad sucks, you defiantly took some tough beats here but you need to look past the bad river cards and see that you aren't playing perfect either, there are always places you can improve. I'm not sure if it still exists but there used to be an article on the front page that Ice wrote an about running bad, if its still posted somewhere it is a good read and something you might want to look at.

Call me WT if you will, but I'm not calling any raise with a flush draw on a paired board ever. If the game plays at all like the Stars game (with lots of blind steals), I think ATs is an easy call PF. Given the checks, I'll often bet it as you did, but I'm done to the mini-raise. And I do think that with flush or straight draws on a paired board, it's certainly no mistake to refrain from the semi-bluff and just check behind.

Sure, he may have some kind of Q, and it's fairly improbable that if he does after having raise that he has filled up. Anyhow, I agree that if you call the flop, you have to call the river, but I think you can and should fold to the flop mini-raise.
