After listening to Xaston on the Skypecast last night I decided to try out some flat calling of big hands in position. It's something I was kinda thinking about doing more of since it seems anyone half decent doesn't call 3-bets OOP much anymore. I don't have much of a read of villain as I've only been at the table a short while. He is 20/15 over a small sample.

I didn't like raising flop because I think I fold out pretty much everything but QQ/AJ and if I get it in there I am probably going to be up against sets/AA almost always. On a more wet board I would probably raise.

I don't know how often or if villain double barrels air, so I assume he has something on the turn here a good amount of the time. However, his something can easily be big spades, so I need to raise here right? What is your line?

Looking back, since we are deepish and villain is not a reg I should have opted to reraise pre. However, a similiar spot could easily come up against a reg quite often.

If you are flat calling with KK in position against an unknown shouldn't you raise the flop to figure out what his holdings might be? If it was a reg you knew well you could just wait until the turn. As played raise the turn to 110. I expect big spades, AJ, TT, QQ maybe AA probably in that order. Reevaluate river. Profit.

I usually raise this flop. I raise more flops with more hands than you'd believe though, so in a more tight scenario flat calling is fine. If I called the flop though, I'd definitely call the turn. Raising the turn is almost like turning KK into a hand trying to bluff out AA.

I'd call and let him take himself to value town on the river, as played.

Anyway, I didn't like my play which is why I posted.

I raised the turn but after I did it, it just felt bad. He thought and called.

River was a K, making me an easy river shove. He folded.
