calling might encourage him to continue a bluff/semi-bluff on the turn. he could easily have a hand like TT here and be betting into you to try to see where he stands.

If you call and he bets into you on the turn, do you fold? Do you bet if he checks to you?

presumably you'd be betting, and with $220 in the pot, presumably you'd be betting at least $150. tack that onto the 72 and you're looking at over $200 to try to win the pot on the turn.

So on the flop, I'd rather try to win it for a cheaper price. I raise to $200 here, fold to a raise, and shut down to a call. He should have a hard time calling with anything but AA/KK/55 or Qx OOP here. unless he either has a good read on you/is a donk.

I really don't see folding this...the problem is that he could definitely have 99-JJ and he may ch/call down turn/river...so I'm probably raising the flop.

I don't think raising lets him play perfectly.

He can definitely get away from 99-JJ if you raise, but he's never getting away from it if you just call (at least, he probably shouldn't). Raising also protects your hand vs AK type hands that aren't going to put any more money in the pot (probably) unless they improve...

I think raising is a good option.

I think his range includes hands as good as AQ/KQ, and JJ-55.
