Even though almost all the worlds leading scientists in this field of study agree that the consequences of global warming are likely to be disasterous you are right, we cannot be certain what will happen, just take an educated guess. But do we really want our descendants to be staring at a barren inhospitable landscape in 400 years and saying "Well they couldn't be 100% sure, so they couldn't really do anything."
Taking action may be detrimental to the development of the some nations, but we will have to find ways round that, there will of course be massive benefits as well.
On the other hand the consequences of inaction have the potential to end the human race.
