Series of hands vs typical $25 PLO'er.

This is kind of like an extension of Kuso's thread on small stakes PLO players and I know some people don't like it when I post more than 1 hand in thread, but in this case I think it's relevant as all these hands are against the same player on the same table. Kind of like a typical bad low stakes player profile here. I ended up slightly in the negative against him, but I think I played these hands well overall (with maybe the exception of the river bet in the 3rd hand). Not really looking for comments on each individual hand, but maybe my strategy against him and players like him, on the whole. Anyway, this is just a sample of what I see on a pretty consistant basis in these games.

Hand I have no read on him yet. He calls flop, I think he has a flush draw. He calls turn, I'm damn sure he has a flush draw. Flush hits on the river and he actually checks behind with the 2nd nuts.

CO lost -$0.50

Hand 2 This hand takes place just 2 hands later. Considering how pathetically he played the 2nd nut flush in the previous hand, when he immediately pops the re-raise I don't like my hand much at all. I'm pretty sure he has top set, maybe even with a straight draw.

Hand 3 After the previous hands I feel I know everything I need to know about how he plays and how to exploit him. So here I accurately put him on the flush draw and actually fire 3 barrels. In retrospect I guess I did have some showdown value here and probably should have checked the river. The bet on the river is probably much better if I had nothing, but if he's not raising a set with the nut flush draw on the turn then I'm now positive I made the correct fold in hand 2.

Hand 4 I finally got him and this is why I never really feel the need to slowplay in this game. My only regret, being results oriented, is that I didn't make a larger river bet, but I really didn't think he had much. I still can't understand what the hell he's calling on the flop for (a pair + a gutshot?) but what a beautiful turn.

bet sizing (again)

you pretty much summed up the main points of the other side of this discussion. i prefer to make people fold than to have them call for value, so i think this is usually a style preference that is impacted by the games one plays in.

sponger
a sponger is somebody who calls a cb with position with the intent of betting out on the turn and/or river (regardless of their holdings) if you don't fire the second and third barrels. these can be tricky players to play against for an aggro player -- you mainly have to value bet and trap when they're in the hand (esp hu), and that is not the nature of most aggro players.

typical player
if this is the typical player, then i'm thinking primarily "make a hand and value bet". if they're going to chase without proper odds and/or call down light, then playing these players is really easy (but boring). you can probably increase your table numbers (screen space permitting) and just play super ABC.

hand 1, pot bet it on flop and turn. very rarely do i bet less than the pot and since you often have a hand you need to protect and its pl rather than nl, you have to get money in when you can so you are allowed to bet more later to further protect and get value.

hand 2 - i think its fine with the read you had, a lot of strength was shown and the guy still pushed. Marginal raise pf imo but i don't hate it.

hand 3 - you put him on the draw so he's gonna fold it when he missed. almost always if a made hand came this far, he's gonna call the river too. Just check river. bet bigger on other streets

hand 4 - fine
