400NL. Kinda standard weirdish hand.

CO ($690.72)
Button ($400)
SB ($831.21)
BB ($794.74)
UTG ($414)
Hero ($$1,095.06 USD)

Preflop: Hero is MP with [8c], [8h].
UTG raises to $14, Hero calls $14, CO folds, Button calls $14, SB folds, BB folds.

UTG 19/16 guy opens, i call, Button (32/24/5.2) guy calls OTB he does this with a wide variety of hands.

Flop: ($42) [7d], [Js], [5s] (3 players)
UTG checks, Hero checks, Button bets $12, UTG folds

This is where this gets kinda awkward. UTG checks and seemingly gives up, Hero???
I mix up betting and checking in that spot. Due to other hands on different tables i had time problems which resulted in a check. He bets a very awkward amount (1/4 pot), and i've never seen him do this before,. My longterm image vs him is 21/18, allthough i have been playing 24/22 the last few orbits. UTG folds. Hero???

The problem i have with my options (call & raise imo) is that if i c/r he will float me with lotsa hands since he knows his hand looks weak. I don't really like inflating the pot OOP vs this solid opponent. By calling, lots of turn cards hurt my hand vs the benefit of a smaller pot .

I would bet the flop 100%.

And yes if he's a good hand reader he knows there's no way you're packing after the flop check.

You should probably buy-in with more than $1.

If you don't think he will fold to a C/R very often and will make your life difficult on the turn and river, then just fold now. Most of the deck could be scary for you on the turn and you are OOP. I prefer to bet in this spot because it makes thing a little clearer.

Fixed the 1$ thing, anyways.

I very much agree not leading this flop is a mistake. Now that i passed up on this decision you're saying i should just fold getting 5:1.. common.

I called since the "1/4 pot bet really threw me off here..

Turn [6h].

Hero?

That bizarre flop bet can mean all kinds of stuff. What's your read on the button? Is he bad enough to think 1/4 pot is a reasonable sized bet? Is he the type who can't avoid betting when checked to, no matter what? Or is he passive? Or ...?

Without a read, his bizarre bet basically narrows down his hand to any two cards that he would play preflop, as far as I can tell. That said, there is only 1 card that can come that will make me feel good about my hand, and I'm OOP. So I'm dumping this on the flop w/o a read.

playing OOP sucks. Playing this OOP sucks even more.

I'd be tempted to fold here just to avoid getting in a large pot with a marginal hand OOP, but given the action, and the mistaken check on the flop ( i bet that flop 95% of the time), i have no idea.

The biggest issue in my mind is a draw. If he's got one, he's probably not going to fold to a check raise. That means that if you raise, I expect you to be called by every hand that beats you, and by draws. maybe some combination of the two like [7s][8s]. Or possible [8s][9s]In other words, I don't think a CR wins you the pot very often unless the guy is bluffing.

So in this case, i'd have to decide between calling his bet and re-evaluation based on what card the turn brings and on what he does after that, and just folding here.

I think, being OOP, the best decision is just to muck, and take more care with these hands to bet instead of waiting to call a bet OOP.

seeing the turn card here, I actually like the line of betting into him. You can try to represent a hand like [8s][9s]. Obviously i'm folding to a raise. with what looks to be a $66 pot, i'm going to fire $40. I'm going to completely give up on this hand if i get any action unless the river is either an 8 or 9.

Of course, you could also check and fold to a large bet and either raise or call a small bet. I'd be more inclined to raise one, but there is something to be said about calling with a small bet with the intention of value betting the river if you think you still have the best hand.

I think the best choice here is leading out though.

My exact worries on the flop 2 Stelvask, that a c/r on the flop really doesn't accomplish anything but makes hands fold that are drawing really thin anyways.

I'm not really sure about the turn either and i would like some others to comment on this, but on to the river for now.

About my read on Vilian read my other post.. 32/24 AF: 5.2 over 1k< hand so kinda reliable.

I think on the flop he will bet at least 80% of the time. Since we're seemingly giving up.

Turn: ($66) [6h] (2 players)

River: ($175.98) [8d] (2 players)
