A mediocre hand against a far less then mediocre player

Postby Rabbi_Chips » Mon Jul 11, 2005 7:46 pm

2 to my left is a real cash cow, I know he’s going bust in a few hands and I would really like to get some of it. He’s drawing to 10 high flushs, follow up his pf raises flop and turn, he’s calling big bets and then folding the river. To protect his identity we’ll call him Dummy.

So I decide to call with really anything that has a chance to be anything thinking that anything that’s anything can be played profitably against him. So I limp from OTB with KhQs3h3s, it’s true, I won’t land the nuts with this but if I get it HU against this bozo I can make some real money.

On the flop I had 7 outs to the nut, and very likely the best hand right now. I was mostly worried about ipumelu’s hand he's a solid player but could be betting a whole lot of things other then a set. If’ he’s got a set I might be in trouble, but then I probably have a whole 15 outs against him if he does.

Thoughts on how I played it?

No problem postflop. Even on the button, I probably still don't limp but you hit pretty much the best flop you can get for that hand. As long as you know what you are looking for and don't overplay your hand, which is how morons make money, and don't forget about other people in the hand.

Flop plays itself, get it all in if possible. No reason to fold or let the ace high draw in cheap.

On the turn against the small player I bet weakly to induce a call. If he happens to have the nut flush you're calling off your stack anyhow, and he can't realistically have anything that can be drawing to a significant number of outs here. If he has a weak flush I'd rather keep him in, or perhaps even show weakness to allow him to bluff a non-flush hand, and of course call down anything he raises or put him in on the river. However, you got his money in anyway, so there ya go!

You hit the perfect flop, that was pretty astonishing for such a crap hand!
