What is a man supposed to do when you enter a multitable tournament that has a blind structure that increases fairly rapidly.....however you get the worst hands ever. I mean you NEVER get a good hand. Last night I was in a tourney where I hands exactly like this.......consecutively:

4-7, 3-6, J-2, 3-8, 8-2, 7-5, Q-3, J-4, 3-9, etc..... NON STOP NON STOP NON STOP

What would a pro do in this situation?

Play nothing until it's desperate time.

For me..tourneys are about surivial. I played a tourney on bodog last week...Did not play a single hand till my busted hand....Blinded down from $T1000 to about $T700.

FINALLY..i get AA UTG. I limp...guy makes a small raise...another guy moves all-in. I go all-in with my AA. He has AJ and flops two Jacks. :)

moral of the story: survive, survive, survive...and then get lucky towards the end. That's how you win tournaments.

Rat, we've all been there. I have played quite a few tourneys like kenny's example, where I havent played a hand til my bust out hand. I played a $10 omaha high on stars the other night and played 56 hands without winning one, finally I got to my BB with 3x BB flopped a pair and an open ended missed everything and busted out. Frusterating but part of tournament life.

Quick High Jack.

Kenny did you finish close to the money? I made a stupid play after I raised 4X the BB with AQ. Player to my left went all in. Like an idiot I called. The other player turned over AK. I got a Q on the flop only to see a K on the turn. I was then crippled and went out with KJs.

I know better then to make that call but that player had made the all in play a few times already after the pot had been raised.

Stick with it Rat the cards will come.

In times where I'm just not getting good hands, and I can.. y'know, "feel" like I'm not gonna have much to play for a while, I just look for a decent chance to get a good sized stack going. For example:

You haven't really played anything thus far, but have managed to win a couple pots on the flop with a raggity board. So your stack is right around 1k while the average stack is around... maybe 1200.

Let's assume the blinds are 25-50 as well.

You pick up 94s in the small blind, and are ready to muck unless you get a ton of callers.

UTG folds.
UTG+1 raises to 150.
UTG+2 calls.
MP folds.
MP+1 raises to 500.
MP+2 (Big stack) calls.
CO (small stack) raises all in to 750.
Button folds.

Ok so right now there is 2125 (I think) in the pot. But there will most likely be anywhere from 2625 to 3325 in the pot by the flop, if you don't act. (That's assuming nobody raises, which may be unrealistic.

Now if you move in right here, if UTG +1 and +2 don't call, but the others do, there will be 3125 in the pot, plus your 1k, which would probably give you enough to bully around the table and slowly build your stack up a bit. Even though your chances aren't exactly fantastic of winning, you probably aren't under 10-15% to win this pot.

Even if UTG+1 and +2 come along, it's probably worth the risk seeing as there's no other way you'll make it to the money if you don't get something soon.
Partake in my bollocks, bloody chav!

Kowboy

If you're reffering to the $100,000 guarenteed...I came in like 275 or something. We busted out about the same time...cuz I looked over at you when I busted and you had like 75 chips ;-)

I called a short stack all-in with AJ (not something I usually do...but he moved in UTG before the blinds killed him..) he flipped over TT and I didn't hit.

Somehow I get it back up to $1200...A muppet raises to $300. I move all-in with AQ...he calls with K9 because he's a muppet..hits a flush on the river :)

gotta love poker!
