I'm obviously against the nuts when a player pots it like this in this game, but with this hand, I don't care. But did I make a mistake in shoving and therefore isolating him? Because immediately afterward, I realized that all my outs were to the nuts (unless someone else had a set and hits quads). Do I really accomplish anything by forcing lesser hands out? So might it not be better to just call and encourage a larger pot?

as a basic guideline, i don't think you're making a _big_ mistake (if any) with either line. that being said, beyond a basic line, the "best" line depends a lot on reads. factors to consider:

- how likely is it that the players behind you will call?

- how likely is it that villain(s) will give you action when you hit?

- how likely is it that villain(s) will fold if a higher straight card hits the board and you bet out?


as a general rule, i usually jam these pots. i'm somewhere between 55/45 and 60/40 hu (depends on how clean my outs are) against a made straight, and i can always hope to trap another straight for robusto pot equity. occasionally, however, i like to mix it up and just flat call and then lead when the scare card hits (which in this case is good for you). the flat call / lead scare card bluff is a nice little play i like to use, but you have to flat call on the flop sometimes in order to make the bluff believable when you do it.
