Good to find out the tournament run wasn't over yet. Cashed in 2 out of 6 last night including picking up $215 in T$ on Stars. Love those little $36+3's which pay out 1 out of every 6.

Played in 3 Omaha 8 MTT's (PL/L) and I don't think I had more than 1 or 2 solid hands in the 3 combined, but I did run fairly deep in the $25K. I was just a coin flip away from a potential top 9 stack with less than 50 left, but I really can't complain because I did get ridiculously lucky to even cash.

There is a difference though in doing something stupid and getting lucky and making the correct decision, but just happening to run into a better hand.....or 2 better hands. In this case, my boldness was insanely rewarded. I made an EP shove for 12 big blinds right on the bubble. Shunned the easy slide into the money and.......

My OPR is suddenly looking very sexy. Finally got the all-time Stars ROI into a positive #. Unfortunately I can't find a true ROI for both sites combined and I can't get it from PT because I play several Omaha and HORSE MTT's too.

Notice that March is historically a pretty sweet month.
Anyone wanna stake me in some bigger tournies?

Decided to take the rest of the month off after Wed. Then I thought I'd maybe dabble with a few random MTT's and maybe play on Sunday.

Was in the mood to play late last night and considered a couple of tournies, but then I thought I was only really in the mood to play for a little while and that would be stupid because you can't win a tournament in a little while. So I decided to skip it.

Thought about playing a couple again tonight, but then I was reading about a possible virus scare in the new Full Tilt update over on 2+2 and decided to skip it again.

May or may not play a couple of random MTT's tomorrow. Depends on if I stay home. May just go out instead.

Played 3 MTT's tonight. Didn't last more than a half hour in any of them. I took one pretty disgusting beat early in the 1st one and then played like shit in the next two, shipping it in on pretty marginal hands. Had 4 more planned, but ditched them because of how poorly I played in the final two.

The beat: I have QQ and raise in EP. Two callers on and an 874 flop (2 clubs). I bet 400 into 550 and get called in one spot. Turn is non-club 6. I check and call a shove (only 1500 in starting chips) for about 2/3 pot. He has A5o (no clubs). No idea what he was doing in there preflop or after my flop bet, but it worked for him. Can't expect to win every time someone does something stupid.

Regardless, March 2008, much like March 2007, was an awesome month. I pray that the months following March don't repeat their 2007 pattern as well.

The key, obviously was less hold'em. Only 9 sessions for -$173.25.

EDIT: Could also be the $2100 profit on 80 MTT's with a 150% ROI.

Played 241 hands (1h 25m) of $2/4 LO8 6-max tonight. Kept it to only 2 tables until I'm comfortable following the action. I can follow it more easily in PLO than O8 games for obvious reasons.

Not very successful, but not a disaster. Dropped 11.5BB. I made the mistake of giving too many people too much credit for playing reasonable hands. Didn't expect to see things like AJJ8 or 8876. Also got coolered by the BB in a few pots.

Just reviewing the session now so we'll see if I played any hands questionably or terribly.

I got super lucky, but I thought AK3x w/ suited Ace was supposed to be a pretty strong hand.

In addition, I found 2 other hands that I played terribly that aren't even worth mention. One actually wasn't that bad, but it was a turn raise at the wrong time when I thought my opponent had been counterfeited on a card that actually made him the nuts. The horrible part is that I failed to fold to the 3-bet and paid him off on the river with the 2nd nut low and a very marginal high hand that was no good either.

Played my first sesson of PLO $50 tonight. Differences:
1 - They raise less, but call even more. I must have been responsible for at least 50% of the preflop raises at my tables. They still love to check-call and slowplay.
2 - I picked up about a stack or more on the river with air when my opponent told me all the way that he had a draw but missed.
3 - I'm a "fishing prick" and "stupid" whenever I win a big pot.

I was up about 2 stacks most of the session then dumped just about my entire profit off on one giant pot where I flopped top set of Queens. Finished -$22.75. That pot still hurts soooo much. 3 stack swing on the rivered flush. Only solice I have is that I he didn't have correct odds to call, but why should that stop him?

Interesting Hands.....

Hand 1- fish pr1ck
That's what he called me, but guess what? The "fish pr1ck" was actually a slight favorite on the flop.

Couldn't fold because as an 85/15 dog he's not getting his odds to be profitable even if he puts me all-in on the river and the pot is just tremendous.

Played 645 hands on $50NL 6-max tonight. Not having that much experience in 6-max NLHE games, I might have been under the wrong assumption that....

1 - Getting it all-in with AK preflop is usually right.
2 - When you have AK, even more so the shorter handed a game gets, it is so much less likely that your opponent has AA or KK.

Never the less, just 5-hands in, I stack off with AK to AA.....then AK to AA again.....then AK to KK. That's 3 stack offs. Then I did made a couple of loose flop calls and hit some running miracles to stack AA and KK. Threw in a couple of big bluffs and turned a 2 stack deficit into a 2+ stack profit.

Yay me.....but AK preflop???

1 - When I hit the case Ace on the flop, it's just a cooler. Nothing I can do.

Sick Suckout #4: There's actually a slight history here. UTG had been very loose and aggressive (52/9/7 - 109 hands). He'd really been a bit on the maniacal side. We had one big pot together where I re-raised him oop preflop with AQs and he called. The flop came KQx and I bet, he shoved.

Here it's a weak re-raise and he bets less than 1/2 the pot on the flop. I take one off thinking he might have TT, 99, AK or even trash. Plan to fold if he follows up on the turn. BUT.......ANOTHER genius slowplay.

Today was just one of those days where everything was going wrong so I strongly considered not playing today because I didn't think it would turn out well. But then the Mets/Braves got rained out and I was gonna go out, but ended up not. Then I decided to suck it up and play anyway. And so, my initiation into NL$100.....

So, the nuts is not the nuts. Thank you for being a short stack though.

History: Villain is 78/28 and regularly playing big pots postflop.
1 - He min-raises, I flop a set, raise him on the flop and he gives up.
2 - The 2nd time he min-raises and I call, I flop the nut straight with QTs and raise him again. I'm so happy when he 3-bets because he probably thinks I'm raising him light.....

Lost another $20 to him when I ran AKs into him unimproved. He donked a rag flop and called a raise. I had to fold to a river bet on a 47486 board.

So basically, the only time he didn't go nuts was when I flopped the set.

Ended up losing 15-22BB's several times, but nothing bigger thanks to the AA guy being a short stack. Helped me to drop only 1/2 a stack.

And I see really no difference between NL$50 and NL$100. As a matter of fact, they seem worse at $100. Weaker and more timid. The only 2 players I ran into that seemed aggressive and decent were 2 players that I had played a lot with at the $50 level.

Good In Theory........
but maybe a little different in practice. I won $37 in my 1st 3 hands today and then another $7 in the next 370. Maybe I should have quit right after I sat down. It was actually really 1 stack that I dumped off right near the end with a pair of 7's when I REALLY thought my opponent was on the flush draw. I was half right, but I had him for the flush draw on the flop, not the turned on that hit on the river.

I got myself into several interesting spots this afternoon. Some I thought I played really well, including one beautiful river bluff in a big pot. And then there were some that I'm unsure of.

#1 - Beautiful river bluff
This was my favorite hand of the day. I'm always prouder of well run bluff than a made hand.
Setup: CO had been min-raising at least once per orbit.
BB was a slightly loose, very aggressive player. Not really bad though. He probably knew that CO was raising trash and could have been going for the steal, but he also had exhibited the ability to fold.
I had been playing a very tight game (17/13) at this table and hadn't gotten out of line yet.

BTN ($26.25)

Pre-flop: ($0.75, 5 players) Hero is SB [6d][7d]
1 fold, CO raises to $1 ($33.50), BTN calls $1 ($25.25), Hero calls $0.75 ($61.05), BB raises to $3.5 ($101.60), CO calls $2.5 ($31.00), BTN calls $2.5 ($22.75), Hero calls $2.5 ($58.55)

Flop: [2s][4c][3d] ($14, 4 players)
Hero checks ($58.55), BB bets $9 ($93.10), 2 folds, Hero calls $9 ($49.55)

As soon as this flop hit, I knew I was going to bluff and try to rep the straight. I had 4 outs to the nuts, but that had really nothing to do with my flop call. I decided it would look stronger if I went for the turn bluff. Of course, it also gave me the option of abandoning if he bet more than 2/3 pot again on the turn.

Turn: [2h] ($32, 2 players)
Hero checks ($49.55), BB checks ($93.10)

His check here most likely means he was on the steal and would probably make the river bluff even easier. Of course he could also have an overpair, but not necessarily a big pair.

River: [Qh] ($32, 2 players)
Hero bets $25 ($24.55), 1 fold

I think I could have made him fold just about any hand he'd check the turn with (cept for QQ of course) with this river bet.

Final Pot: $32

Hero wins $55.45 ( won +$17.95 )
BB lost -$12.50
CO lost -$3.50
BTN lost -$3.50

-----------------------------------------

#2 - I always pick the right spots
To 3-bet bluff preflop. This table was really tight, which made it the perfect table to do this, at least I thought, and I hadn't 3-bet yet which I THOUGHT might make it more believable. Yet, immediately, the 26/13 BTN flats my 3-bet and both the raiser (25/13), AND caller (25/10) call. Exactly what I wanted with 73s, right?

Should I have taken a stab postflop at any point?

#3 - KK with A on the flop
This hand was against the same aggressive player that I bluffed on hand 1. This has also kinda become my standard play with KK when an Ace flops vs 1 opponent. If I bet, he's probably not folding an Ace, but will fold hands I beat. If I check, I can maybe get value out of some other hands and maybe even get him to try and rep an Ace he doesn't have if it looks like the Ace scares me.

It didn't hurt that I knew this player was aggressive. Result, I got an extra $8.50 out of 5 high.

#4 & #5 - Being 3-bet with AA.

In the first hand, I considered just flatting here, but decided against it because there was a player in the middle and since we all had more than 100BB, I thought he could easily call with a lot of hands. If the stacks are deeper, I would prefer to make the preflop pot as large as possible with AA and don't necessarily mind taking down what's already in it with a 4-bet preflop.

The BTN 3-bettor was 16/11 over 200+ hands if that means anything.

This hand is a much different. I was in position and there was no other player in the pot. I didn't think he would have re-raised 65s, but this flop was dangerous enough that I didn't want him to see another card so I made the flop raise a little larger than 3x his bet. The good thing about this flop though was that I might get him in with 99+ thinking I might be on a draw as I had just shown a large flop raise with a flush draw on this table.

#6 - Raised the draw, got caught.
This was the hand I alluded to in the last AA hand. It was also the table that I pulled off the bluff in hand 1 and it's against the same min-raiser who I didn't think had shit.

I led expecting him to fold a lot of hands, but also thinking he could bluff raise a couple. It's also easier to put in a larger bet if he makes a raise than if I just check-raise here. His raise is pretty weak and I bet just enough to give myself about 2-1 odds too if he happens to shove. I figured anywhere from 9 to 12 outs.

I wanted to kill the SB who was going back and forth with him and pushing him into the shove here because obviously I wanted the fold even though it worked out well.

Also, against a good player, I might not have done this as I don't expect them to drop over 100BB with just a pair as often when the pot is $2 preflop. But I also don't expect good players to min-raise much preflop either.

#7 - I'm an ass. I really thought he had the heart draw.
This is the same table where I had to show down 73s on that botched 3-bet bluff.
This is also the same 25/13 player who originally raised that hand.

Even though I'm one to do it with big hands, I generally assume that most players who donk weakly are looking for a cheap price on a draw so I raised the flop.

When he calls the flop raise and the Ace comes on the turn I thought it was a great card for me but it ended up being the worst card in the deck. I was almost positive when he called the turn bet that he was on a draw.

And again, his river bet could very well be consistant with my thinking. Bluffing a missed draw. So I called. I'm an ass. There is no way I put him on a weak Jack. The [As] was actually such a bad card for me. [Ad] or [Ac] and probably any other non-heart or spade allows me to double barrel and probably get him to fold his Jacks.

Lasted 20 minutes in the $100K yesterday afternoon. AQ < K4s, AQ = whiff, TT = KAQ flop, AJs < KK all losers in the first 26 hands and gone.

Played an hour of NL$50 6-max. Difference was one big hand. I'm hardly ever an advocate of slowplaying, but this is one of the few situations I'll do it because I'm more than happy when my opponent nails his 2 out set/boat on the turn. Even funnier that he took almost all his time before shoving the river.

----------------------------------

Finsihed the night with 6 MTT's. The first one I started was also the last one I was left with 4 1/2 hours later. Very disappointing ending. I was 2nd in the $5K PLO8 at Stars with 18 left. Finished 17th. Posted in the Omaha forum. Even more disappointing was that I needed 15th to be in profit for the day which you would obviously think was a shoe in being 2nd with 18 left.

Deciding hand - short version, I raise AAQ3ss and get called by BB. He check-raises all in on Q68 rainbow flop. I consider that the 8 and 6 didn't help him and put him on a likely naked A2 low draw and call. Cruel, cruel rivered straight for the scoop. See Omaha forum for results later.

I lasted anywhere from 1.5 to 3 hours in each of the other 5 MTT's with several bubbles and one other cash.

Obviously, the only reason Full Tilt ever allows me to get a giant stack very early in an MTT is to super cooler me several hands in a row and knock me out right after the first break.

You see, when you get a big stack in a Full Tilt low buy-in tournament, no matter how tightly you play, they target you because they expect you to be full of shit. Then you when you turn over your super strong hand after they shoved over you marginally, they still draw out or hold their 44-77 over your AK/AQ anyway several times in a row.

I ended up giving my entire stack to the same guy who shoved over me 3x. The first 2 times I folded, the 3rd I shoved over his 3-bet preflop with AQ. His JJ was good.

Still trying to figure out why I keep trying this NLHE thing. First $100 FR session was a loser, 2nd one was a disaster.

Table 1 - AA < QQ in a 3-bet pot for a stack.
Table 2 - I run 6/0 for 85 hands, finally raise to "punish" the MP limper with ATo on the 86th hand and get min-c/r'ed on the flop. I 3-bet thinking that folding for an hour and a half MIGHT get some respect. Call and he "punishes" my silly raise with a shove on the turn. Back to folding.
Table 3 - Re-raise the 62/12 min-PFR'er to "punish" him with AKs. He "punishes" me flop, turn, and river with 32o. He walked off with 2+ stacks of profit after an hour, stunning the entire table, by out-running sets and overpairs.

Picked up close to a stack in the $50 PLO game. I think I might be finally starting to understand that game. Don't EVER bluff.
- Raise the river on a paired board with a flush possible too, snap called by a straight.
- Raise the turn with 2 pair, get snap called by bottom pair with a gut shot to the wheel.
- Most flops will be taken 5 - ways....unless it's raised, then it's usually 4 to the flop and 3 to the turn after I fold.
- Can't figure out how many outs you have and whether you have the right pot odds (both immediate and implied)? That's ok. Just shove in and figure it out later.
- KT83ss is a hand you raise against the entire table from the blinds and fire off your entire stack when you completely miss.
- The T-hi flush does not fear the higher flush when he's raised on the turn AND river.
- Q954 no suits IS a hand that you want to call a raise with and stack off when you hit top pair..........
