Had a pretty good day today, and I finally RE-BREACHED the $3000 barrier! WOOT! I played fairly well, but got a bit out of line with a few bets/calls/bluffs that looked good, but were actually a bit ill-advised. The type of hotshot fancy play that's great at making you look cool, and not very good at making you money. But it worked out, and I booked a nice $175 win.

I actually finished at $3015.91, but I'm sick of seeing these ridiculous odd numbers so I took the $15.91 to a PLO table and promptly lost it.

The next question is when to move up to 5-10? I'm currently thinking $4000 would be good, but I have a tendency to scrap any plan that involves sound thinking and patience, so I may wind up moving sooner. Like maybe the first week that I'm above $3000 after a cashout. Definitely not this week, anyhow. I have a $500 cashout in two days, so my re-entry into the 3K zone will probably be short-lived. Still feels good, though!

Current limit : 3-6 LHE
Current Bankroll : $3000

Hey TW,

Maybe take selective shots. Pick your spot when you are "in the zone" find a loose table and take a stab.

I am not a pro so the consequences for me are not as dire as they are for you so take my recommendation with a grain of salt. I usually play a level or 2 higher on the weekend when the on line poker sites fill up with weekend warriors.

Good Luck :!:

Okay, so I'm a gambler. I like making bets, even if I'm already playing. If I'm playing a home game, I usually wind up making upwards of 6 or 7 side bets every night with one of the other players, getting them to lay me odds to see if I can guess an opponents hand. Back in the good ol' days when BtPers actually played the BTP horse tournies, I was known for frequently making last-longer bets...a practice which worked out rather dismally for me, but was fun nonetheless.

Point is, I am now offering the official TW-CHALLENGE to any limit players with a bit of gamble in 'em! Here's the deal. We both sit down with $50 at a full 1/2 limit ring-table, no rebuys allowed, and we MUST see the flop with absolutely any hand we're dealt, regardless of how much preflop action occurs. After the flop, you can do whatever the hell you want. Whoever goes bust first loses, and must pay the winner $50 PLUS an amount equal to how much the winner is stuck. i.e. If I play you and have $23 left when you go bust, you owe me $77 ($50 + (50-23)). If the winner is up over the initial $50 when the loser goes bust, the loser just owes the flat $50.

Anyone interested or do I have to give you weanie-ass-wanna-be-mizors some sort of overlay?

Put in a pretty short day today, a bit under three hours, and made about $182.91...another good day in a good week, though I'm a bit upset that I've only come up with 22 hours so far. I really would like to book some 40 hour weeks, but unless I manage 18 hours tomorrow, it ain't gonna happen.

Other good news is that my overall financial situation is turning out to be not quite as bad as I thought, despite the unexpected $1200 spent on my car. My insufferable leech of a roommate recently graduated from semi-college, so he's actually putting in some decent hours at his job and looking for a full-time one. The sooner the bastard gets one the better, but we're getting by for now. It's looking like I might be able to start safely playing 5-10 by the beginning of August, which will also make life a lot easier.

Current limit : 3-6 LHE
Current Bankroll : $3182

Well, I ended the week on a good note with a $270 win in a MAMMOTH 2 hour session. lol, I really gotta get back on the ol' horse as far as playing enough hours...then again, I'm not sure I've ever been on the ol' horse to begin with, so that just goes to show. Here's my week's numbers.

Hours played...25:00
Total gain...$1345
Hourly rate...$53.80/hour

Yikes! Cleary I've been running damned well lately, and this is definitely the best week I've had in quite a while...probably one of the top 3 or 4 I've had since playing "full-time." I cashed out $500 as is my custom, and it's really great to be able to give my bankroll an $800-plus infusion...BUT, I clearly can't expect this rate to continue, and if I want my bankroll to keep growing, I need to play at least 30 or 35 hours.

The current decision is whether to move up to 5-10 or wait until I hit 4 grand. BKAZ made a good suggestion about taking occasional shots when I'm feeling good about my game and find a loose table...but I know myself well enough to know that once I start playing 5-10, I'm not going to be able to go back down. I mean, sure, if my bankroll took enough of a hit that I HAD to move back down, I could do it. I already have done it. But I'm not sure I'll be able to just take a shot and then slide back down.

It's probably best to wait till I hit $4000, because I really don't want to have to worry about moving back down after one or two bad sessions. Thoughts, anyone?

Current limit : 3-6 LHE (probably)
Current Bankroll : $2950 (definitely)

After a solid 3 minutes of actually thinking, I've decided that I am DEFINITELY going to wait until I can cash out down to $4K before moving up. What did it was the memory of about a month and a half ago, when I had hit my all-time low of about $900, but still had so many bills to pay that I had to keep playing 3-6 on a 150BB bankroll. Day after day, having to live with the constant fear of having to go crawling back to the hated gas station, my dream slowly sliding away...I really don't want to have to deal with that stress, or anything close to it, ever again. I'm currently sitting on a 500BB bankroll, and doing pretty well as far as monthly expenses, even despite the unexpected automotive issues...hell, my checking account is even yielding a small surplus! I'd really like things to stay that way, so I'm gonna keep pluggin away at the 3-6 tables. Like I've said, once I move up to 5-10, I don't want to ever have to move back down.

TW
I am dead serious (for once)...That 3 minutes of thinking may be the best 3 minutes of your life...Poker is stressful enough without BR stress...
Way to go....

Good decision TW. Playing with an inflated BR makes the swings much easier to handle. And congrats on your success these past couple weeks..
