Haven't read any of the thread but my fave five are:
1) The Beatles
2) Led Zeppelin
3) Yes (both the Howe and Rabin versions)
4) Van Halen (all Roth and some Hagar)
5) Early Rush (Moving Pictures and before)
Later in life I grew to like Dream Theater a lot...but not more than my original fave five.
EDIT: OK now I read the OP and I can't belive I left out Pink Floyd. WTF? Take out Van Halen and put Pink Floyd in my 5.

In my honest opinion I see very little difference between the beatles and the monkeys...yeah flame on obv...but its like weezer and greenday...same gay band, one just sold out a little more so we dont talk about them
