Coal power is in the 2-5 cent per kWh range, whereas photovoltaic solar is around 20 cents/kWh over the lifetime of the panel. Eventually solar will make economic sense through advances manufacturing and technology, but it's probably a decade away at least.
Tax breaks may make it worthwhile in some instances though.
