MTT at the Taj. No rebuys. 5000 in chips to start but blinds go up every 20 minutes and its a pretty fast growing structure. I have about 5k in chips with the blinds 200/400 and 75 ante.

I'm UTG+1 and raise to 1200 with TT. Folds to LP who says raise and throws in 1200 in chips. He didn't see my raise so they tell him he has to put in 2400 (he only had to put in 2000 but I wasn't gonna correct it). He has me covered by about 1500 and has been pretty aggressive so I think he's doing this with a decent Ace. Folds to me. What is your action? Obviously folding isn't an option but do you call or raise all in?

I decided to call and the flop was 763 and I went all in for about 2500. He lifts his cards, stares at them for a while and folds. They way handled the raise preflop had me confused but I was pretty sure he wasn't very happy with his hand after he saw what happened. Should I have pushed which I think he would have called preflop, or should I do what I did and wait for a decent flop and push.

Well I am all for taking a flop when able but here you have a hand that is above average facing a guy who by all accounts is making a steal attempt on the blinds without seeing you in the hand. Why call and let him hit his k rag or whatever other garbage he is playing.

Calling is not a good play unless you plan on shoving any non ace flop. Calling and seeing a flop and watching an Ace or paint flop will make you throw up in your mouth being out of position. If you check, he will most likely put you all in and you now have a very tough decision. 1010 will not flop a set and see at least 1 overcard 62.9% of the time per Mike Caro's misery index.

Say you call and flop comes with one over or more and you fold to his bet. (assuming you dont shove any flop). Now you have 2600 in chips left with the blinds coming in 1 hand. One orbit costs you ~1200 chips. If you don't get a hand utg or in the bb you are quickly becoming severely short, to the point of being irrelevant.

I push his awkward reraise attempt everytime here. If it was an elaborate ruse to get action with his AA/KK so be it. If he had AA or KK you would get stacked on this flop anyways. You have to bet your overpair and any bet on the flop basically committs you since the stacks are short.

Granted folding is another option, but think you are ahead here more than you are behind.

All in two card poker stinks, but with the fast structure, you need to get chips now. I think worst case you are against two overs. More than likely you are against 1 over and are in great position to double up.

I push in (edit: pre-flop) just to piss him off. Plus I think you are ahead here

this guy was just trying to steal, now he is sort of mad he has to push in more money. He obviously doesn't have a premium hand, I push in and hope to tilt him and if you have to race you are most likely ahead.

I am not a big fan of going all in until you have too but this guy isn't paying enough attention to the action to notice a raise, obviously he is a muppet. I push in on him pre-flop

I don't see how you can call off half your stack here.. are you going to check/fold if an Ace hits? What about K, Q or J? I'm pushing preflop, there should be *some* fold equity, and you're at worst on the bright side of a coinflip.

yeah but if I wait til the flop and push regardless, i have a lot more fold equity as he will miss 2/3 the time.

I think i'm all in either way but by waiting to the flop, I can win a good pot with some less risk and if he calls with overcards there, I have him putting it in as a bigger dog.
