The only real question I have with the system is. What do you do if the chip leader is on your left. How would you steal the blinds when its their blind you're trying to steal. I played an SnG today and took 2nd using this system but the chip leader being where they were made it a littl dicey at times.

It depends on how deep the leader is compared to you. But what the chip leader really wants to do is get other people to fold to their pushy raises. If you are all in, you can't fold, so the leader will, more often than not, decide to push somebody else around our wait for a better time to pick off one of your raises.

I would be more concerned about the leader's position if I was making raises that were not pot-committing me and if the chip leader had more than 2x my stack (i.e. he could double me up and still be the leader).

Okay, here are the results of my first 10 SnGs - $5 + .50 @ UB. I know - it has taken me forever but hey, I am only good enough to play one table at a time and I still have to work for a living. :lol: :lol: :lol:

1st = 4
2nd = 0
3rd = 2
4th = 3
5th = 1

ITM = 60%
ROI =

No way is this sustainable or do I think that only ten is a significant amount but I AM under delusion that it shows that this strategy had merit - at least for me.

As a side note - I found that the pushing style in the final three has a side benefit of setting up the monsters. I lost most of my stack with QQ when he spiked an ace but that set me up to climb back and knock out the same player when I had AA and he called my all-in on a king high flop. That led to my fourth win.

So when does it start to work?

Postby SebQtaneus » Mon Jul 25, 2005 12:36 pm

First post here folks so forgive me if I seem a bit stupid. I've been lurking for quite awhile though so I am familiar with a lot of your guys' posts.
Anyway, I saw this thread and thought it looked like a real good strategy that could be implemented by a semi-newb. Course when I saw the posts that showed folks having immediate success with it, that just made me all the more excited about trying it. Just to make sure I could do it before actually risking any money, I played some play money S&G's at Bodog and UB. Did fairly well, couple of 3rds at UB and a 3rd and 1st at Bodog. So knowing that I definitely had a large enough data base to make a decision about it (just kidding), I took tha plunge and played 2 $6 ones at Paradise Poker where my bankroll is deposited at the moment. So far a 5th and a 7th. :cry: The first one went 25 hands before the first person got knocked out. Is that normal? Seemd a bit tight to me. Although I still think it will probably work out in the end, the bad beats I have taken to knock me out of these things early are very discouraging. (their draws hit on the river both times to beat my hands (QQ vs. J9 suited that hit a flush on river & AK vs. K8o that hit King on flop and 8 on the river) that had them beat after the flop) And since I didn't see anyone making any any posts about not doing well with the system, I figured I would let you all know that some of us aren't yet. BTW, I have implented it EXACTLY as written in the original post.
Well, enough crying by me. Hopefully I will get better at this. How many losses in a row should I have before I should seriously start to worry?
Great Forum and awesome posters BTW. I enjoy reading it immensely.

Seb... welcome aboard... Always lookin for more good SNG players...

The crappy thing about poker is that even if you go in as a 4:1 favorite, you're still gonna lose a certain % of the time... And, in SNGs, you can't reload and take back your money from the doofus who cracked your trip Aces w/ 72o when he rivers a boat...

You can't ask for much more than to go in as a 75%+ favorite, as you did in both of these hands...

And, as for how many SNGs... You really can't make an informed judgement about your play until you've played 50-100 SNGs at that level, on that site... I know it's a lot, but I've lost 4 in a row and placed ITM in another 4 in a row SOOOOOOOOOOO many times that it makes me wanna barf...

Thanks for the welcome MVP.
Yeah, I know I haven't played enough of them to make a real informed decision. But I do admit that I had figured to finish ITM at least once in my first 2 after seeing people post their initial results using this system. Probably unwise of me to think that but I was.
As for the first one I played, is it common to go 25 hands in a S&G without losing anyone? I mean, geez, if I'm only gonna sitout 30 hands before I seriously start to play, I would think that the field should normally be down to almost half.

Nash,
Very nice strategy and thank you for writing it up for everyone to use. I have a couple questions about it for you though.

In stage 3, you state to play "hyperaggresively" if shortstacked. Could you please explain this a bit more?

And in stage 4, since there is a 30% difference between 3rd and 1st place prize winnings, why should I push with a 50% hand if I am in 3rd? A 50% hand seems a bit low to be going all in with when there is a good chance that 1st and 2nd probably aint gonna call you with something that low as well if they were a good enough players to make it to the money stage. Granted I'm still fairly new at this, but I'd appreciate it if you could explain this to me a bit more.
Thanks,
Seb
