My BTP tourney result

Postby EscapePlan9 » Sun Jul 31, 2005 3:22 pm

I was the second person eliminated!

I started off stealing a lot of blinds and pots becoming chip leader. Then I raised a limper and got the BB to call (xeno, i think). The flop was KK5. I had AT. I check-called the flop with the intention of check-raising the turn whatever came up. So much for that bluff... I get re-raised on the turn. I'm down to t1000 chips.

We're 5-handed and UTG does standard 3xBB raise. I re-raise with my pocket queens. He re-raises me back and I call, intending to push as long as no A or K appears on the flop. The flop comes T-high and I'm all-in. He has AA and I'm out. I somewhat regret going all-in on the flop since I started thinking he probably has KK or AA, but when 5-handed and only two overpairs above me, I thought I might still be ahead. I should have realized that with his big bet on the flop, he would be forced to call my all-in, so he must have a strong hand. Still, he could have had JJ.

Whoops, my bad. Out in 30th place.

It was quite an unusual tournament playing against a bunch of decent players.

Phew! Just finished up, I did get an UNREAL run of cards at the right time. I thought NathanHicks played really well, as well as Ricardooon, even though he was short stacked most of the tournament.

I got lucky a couple times, like when I raised UTG to 800 from 200 with [9h] [7h], Ricardoon calls, the flop is [Jh] [6h] [8c]. I was obviously making a play from the power postion, I set him all in for his last 2500, and he of course calls me with aces, including [Ah], the [Kh] came on the turn, and with no heart on the river, I sure did get lucky to crack his aces.
The pivotal hand was between me and NathanHicks. It was sb vs. bb, I raised in the SB from 400- 2000 with K7, and he called me. The flop was KK9, I lead out and bet 2400, and he calls me. The turn brought I think a 6? I checked to him, he bet something like 3000, I check raised 5000 more, he moved in and of course I called quickly, he had JT.

that was me you tried stealing from w/ the AT. There'd been ALOT of blind stealing going on, so I decided to call your raise w/ K3, and got a lucky flop. It was a completely different experience, very good play throughout. My first BTP tourney, but I'll be back next month.

I knew before the tourney started I'd have to change my playing style. Most of the players here are tight-aggressive, so I tried to play off that with some loose aggression. I cannot even count how many times everyone folded to the blinds. I decided I might as well pick up some chips here.

I still regret my QQ play. I don't regret how I played the AT. It was worthy of raising with given the circumstances and with that flop, I was pretty sure I was ahead. I tried to represent the K, since I knew you'd be a decent enough player to consider what my cards were. Obviously you had the K and my plan fell apart. Still, the blinds were small and I wasn't crippled.
