Well I am back. Have been out of pocket a while, without much time to play, and practically no time to read and post. I just found out about the WCOOP a couple of days ago as I had not played on stars in ages.
Anyway, I played a couple of the level one FPP satellites, thinking I would just unregister if i won and use the FPPs later after the WCOOP was over. First one I happened upon was Limit Holdem and won it, even though I usually suck at Limit MTTs. The play was so bad, I next tried a 7 stud H/L FPP satellite, and won that one too. I barely know how to play Stud H/L!
I then decided to try some cash satellites. First I won a seat into #6, the $215 Limit HE event. Next I won a seat into #1 the $530 NLHE event.
I don't know how many of these events I will play. But it seems alot of these players have no concept of how to play the bubble in a satellite where anywhere in the money is the same as first. I saw a guy with the chip lead who could have sat out while about 15 more people dropped out, get knocked out in two hands! The rebuy sats also have a lot of dead money in them from the folks who don't stick around until the end of the rebuy period.
I think these are a good value if you know how to play satellites, even if you are going to sell the T$.
I played a 6 handed PL HE satellite last night, and called off 1/2 my stack on a horrible play late in the game. Very stupid move that probably cost me the seat.
By the way, I won the $530 seat with my minumum rebuys (3). I figured I could outplay most of these guys after the rebuy period, so I stayed out of the way while my first table went through over 40 rebuys. I did pick up a few chips playing big hands tight/passive, and after the addon, I was about 2/3 of an average stack. Just chipped away from there. When we were down to 2 tables the two chip leaders were me, and another guy who sat through the madness at my first table and who also only spent $33. I can't remember his name, but I've seen him before. I think he's a $10/20 NL ring player.
I hope I have time to play alot more of these satellites. Good luck everyone.
