Moving back down
Current mood: awake

After long thought and a stagnant game, I've decided to move back down to $1/$2NL. Although I'm a winning player on $2/$4, the swings are just too much for me to bear. I have a little over 20 buyins...but it just doesn't seem enough. Too much stress losing $800 pots on bad beats or bad luck.

I will go back to my old stomping grounds on prima starting in August. I'll 3-4 table and plan to put in 20-30 hours a week. I'm looking foward to an easy game and a lot less stress. It's amazing to me how different it is calling a $200 bluff to a $400 bluff. One thing is for sure...I'm NOT one of the best $2/$4NL online players in the world. I need a lot of work.

I'm unlocking the rest of my bonus money on Bodog and then heading out. I'll still play their big tournaments and an occasional sit-n-go. The cash games haven't been kind to me lately.

While trying to unlock the last of my bonus, I've played 4 $100 sit-n-gos. I was inspired when I saw Mad Genius (a poker friend) playing a $200 one and decided I had to try. I'm glad I did. I've placed in 3 out of the 4... one 1st and two 3rds. That's a great return on investment.

It also leads me to another interesting conclusion: I am a better tournament player then a cash game's specialist. I don't play in many tournaments, but if I do...I'm almost always in the running for the final table. It seems like I never get lucky either...I just survive, survive, and survive until I actually get some hands.

Considering I'm one of the best 1/2NL online players in the world; it's hard to fathom that I'm actually better at tournaments. ahhhh! I love sounding arrogant :) Seriously though, tournaments are my forte.

I'll let you know how the rest of my week goes, earning that bonus money on bodog. Then I'm off to prima again. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

I'm just gonna play more big tournaments to try to win a huge prize. So don't worry, I'm still a cash games player.

It's not just recent results on the tournaments btw... i happen to have a lot of top 3 finishes under my belt :)

Nice random bashing of TW's journal. lol.

As to your first question, no I don't feel that tournaments and sitngos have had any effect on my cash game play. I only played 8 sitngos and a couple of tournaments, so it really wasn't a big deal. I go in with completely different mindsets for each game. Tournaments are about surivival and cash games are about stacking people. At least that's how I feel about it.

Yeah it's less exciting for me to play 1/2. But I'm really not a gambler, so it doesn't bother me. I think in the book "Zen and the Art of Poker" the author has a quiz about why you really play poker. I'm pretty sure I put down 1 point for excitement and thrill, 7 points for money, and 2 points for being competetive.

Frankly, I just don't like gambling that much....I'd rather get laid then get a thrill from gambling. The stress that was over my head is gone and I'm really thankful about that. Next time I move up, I'll have a much bigger roll to work with.

Take it from someone who has taken VERY small baby steps moving up stakes and who has moved up and back down several times. The stress level gets easier to take each time you move back up.

I think you are the exact right track, Kenny. I do think the stress will be lower and it will be easier to sleep at night if you get your SD down. Thats may not be possible, but its worth thinking about.

Alot of times, pitchers or QBs get to the college level or pros and the new caoch wants to change their delivery because their mechanics are bad. Thats all fine and good, but if you cant pitch as well with the suppossed "correct" delivery, then it wont work for you. But if it does work for you, you so much better off.

Going well
Current mood: blah

My stint at $1/2 on prima is going very well. I already have 15 hours logged for the week (some more if you include bodog, which I'm not.) That's a ton of hours for me. I've been forcing myself to play everyday, and I've been playing execptionally. Maybe a little too aggressive at time with marginal hands.. but I'm working on it. Rather be too aggressive then too weak though.

Some stats and comments for some crazy people that actually know how to use pokertracker:

Hands: 3123

BB/100: 9.03PTBB (18.06BB/100)
I'd like to be able to keep this around 10. It might not be possible though. Although I've had one losing session so far, I haven't hit a horrible run. I'm bracing for that and will expect this number to go down accordingly. Also playing 4-5 tables like I am...I just concentrate as much on each seperate hand. As long as my hourly rate stays up, I don't care though.

Multi-Table Ratio: 3.44
This is going to go up some more...since I just started playing 5 tables at once.

VP$IP: 18.25
I'd like to see this go down one point.

Won $ when seeing flop: 38.24%
LOVE this number. Aggression is sweet. Actually had a guy ask me today if, "I always hit a hand in the SB?" He folded and I told him yeah... (third pair counts as something right?) :)

Won at showdown: 56.74%
Not exactly what I'm hoping for. I want this number to be 60 and up. Might not be possible with my new uber aggressive style? Not sure...

PTBB an hour: 18.85

Wonderful number. It may still go on up, as I now know I can handle 5 tables at one time. I would just love if it stays above 15 for the month.

Ok enough boring stats. I've decided I'm going to be famous in 2 years. Some may scoff, others may whine (TW's sister anyone?), but it's gonna happen.

I'm going to break through in a satelitte and win a big chunk of change on the circuit. I'm not trying to do that yet, though. That's next year's big goal. Right now I just have to put in hours, study, and stay focused to build this craptastic bankroll. Actual bankroll managment would be fun too.

Next year will be a lot easier for me. Most of my debt will be gone or nearly gone..and I'll be filing quarterly with the government.

At this point, I'm gonna owe a nice chunk of change to Uncle Sam at the end of the year. Makes it feel like it's impossible to build a bankroll. Never doing this once a year thing ever again.

I feel I'm going to succeed. Putting in these hours really helps... I still wanna shoot myself at the end of each session though. I'll have to work on that.

Hope everyone has a sweet weekend.
